An inexpensive fix for non-working AC, but only if you know you need it first!
After many hours of diagnosis and at least two evacuations and recharges, it was found out my fan wasn't working. The fan is controlled by the PCM (computer) and apparently comes on low with the compressor, and only comes on High when the AC is on and the engine coolant is 180F. It's a bit involved to get the fan assembly out, but not a difficult job for someone mechanically inclined. There are links on how to do it - drain the coolant just a bit, remove the battery and tray, remove the grill and front clip of the car (only four little screws and six tiny bolts), then tilt the radiator forward. Fiddling and messing with stuck bolts and connectors will add at least 30 minutes to the job, if not an hour. There is no video or instruction in the Chrysler Service Manual for changing out only the motor - it is supposed to be the whole shroud/fan/motor at once, but you can knock off the flat metal clip that holds the fan blade in place, then be prepared to spend a half hour soaking it in PB'Blaster, using vise grips, and otherwise swearing the fan blade off the shaft without breaking it. It comes straight off, there are no "tabs" or anything behind it so you don't need to turn it on the shaft. Just be careful you don't break it or you'll have to buy another one. Then it's simply three screws that hold the motor to the shroud and installation is the reverse of disassembly. The whole job took me 3 hours on a 2006, because everything is that rusted and battery acid-covered already - Chrysler products really do leave a lot to be desired.

Great replacement
Fixed my a/c stutter issue with this fan motor. Was tricky to get radiator moved without disconnecting but that wasn't this products fault. Also, be sure to put the retaining clip back on it the same way you found it (convex side facing out) or the fan blades will rub against the shroud.

Perfect Fix!
If your PT Cruiser almost stalls when the A/C is on while the engine is idling, and the fan does not come on within 10 seconds when you turn on the A/C, then this is your fix. I put this on my wife's 05 PT Touring Edition, and it works perfect. It was a bit noisy at first, but after running for a few minutes is quieted down. Shipping was fast, and the packaging was professional. A great transaction.

Resolved my overheating issue entirely
My 2001 PT Cruiser Limited Edition began overheating only while idling. It was fine while driving, but overheated in traffic or any situation where the car is stationary. My AC would also start blowing hot air while idling. After reading online that the fan is the most likely issue, I ordered this fan motor instead of the entire fan unit, which cost about twice as much. I got it installed, and my problem is totally resolved.

Does what it says on the tin
Ordered the fan motor from Amazon USA for delivery to the UK, even with postage and duty it worked out cheaper than anywhere in the UK (£53 all in vis £89 the UK) Only took 8 days to arrive Once the fan shroud what removed it was fairly easy to fit. Fitted and works perfectly now have low speed fan working which is used for the Air con :-) Great product

i could not find just the fan motor anywhere else.the rest of my fan was still good and the freight cost of motor only was a lot lower than a complete assembly.savings all round. it took less than 5 mins to swap the new motor over into the assembly but removing and fitting the assembly is another thing....just google it to find out

Hello, Match perfectly for my PT Cruiser european verstion with 2,2L CRD motor. The packaging was not very strong, the connection socket was broken. I managed that way. Edit august 5 : Hello, i buy this motor in april and it worked perfectly until yesterday. The motor began to smoke and is completely blocked now. What solution do you propose ? Edit october 5 : New fan motor received on sept 25 (damn late) ! But im charged with 53,74 $ on oct 1 because i have not sent the defective fan motor (i expected to have new motor). Today i paid 42 $ to sending old motor. So il paid 177 $ (first order with charge + charge second sending + return charge) today for a fan motor, isnt great ? Regards.

Installed the motor in a fan in a 2002, very tight fit as all the PT owners know. Found a how to do on youtube. Fixed the low speed AC problem that other spoke about. Saved hundreds doing it my self.
