Looks expensive and surprisingly comfortable
My wife and I went to our local furniture stores looking for stools for our kitchen island. We decide on these stools because they look expensive, but we affordable comparted to the higher end stools. We also were surprised how comfortable they were since we were used to stools with cushions. As I was ready to go back to the store to purchased I check on Amazon to see if they had anuything similar. SCORE! The exact same stools for $40 less! Thank you Amazon for making things more afforable for people that live in Hawaii. These stools were straightforward to assemble although I am from a construction background. I found assembling one leg secure and leaving the reset snug the best in aligning everything. Then tighen the rest one by one and using a rubber mallet to tap the legs more tight to the seat area. There were some issues like I had a set of legs with the plastic feet on the wrong end, but this was easily fixed with a plier. The stool comes with the legs unassembled and I read about the legs not all being the same length. With tapping the legs before tightening I found this helped. With no load they were a little wobbly but when I sat on them they were stable. For the price you cannot complain. Try and find a professionally assemble stool like this for a price under a $100. I could probably make this chair stand perfectly but the wobble is so minimal that it is not worth my time to fix this issue.

Beautiful, excellent quality stool
I was a little nervous after reading that some people had trouble with assembly and the pieces fitting together properly. But I think if you follow the instructions, you should not have problems. It took me about 45 minutes to screw everything together, and it's lovely! Very comfy scoop, and the wood is beautiful hardwood acacia. Love it! Only problem: I ordered two counter-height stools, and got ONE counter height and ONE bar height! WRONG-O! When I tried to get a replacement for the bar height stool, I found that the price had increased by more than $40 because Amazon changed vendors! After chatting with an Amazon, agent, though, I was assured that I would be credited for the difference upon receipt of the new item, since the fault lay with the vendor, not me. So I'm hoping they'll be as good as their word.

Outstanding quality for the price.
These stools are exceptional quality. I bought a second after seeing the quality of the first. Although I purchased both as “counter height,” one of them arrived as the taller “bar height.” I don’t care so much because I bought them both used and got them for a song! The wood grain is gorgeous. The mix of dark and light grains makes me think they will stand the test of time in terms of trend and style changes. The construction is solid, nothing composite or lightweight, and the hardware is sturdy. Possibly my best Amazon purchase to date.

Avoid these. Quality varies drastically.
I don't write many reviews here, but I felt obligated to share my experience. Quality assurance varies wildly. I bought two stools, one of which is wobbly and has questionable workmanship. Don't buy these. Wood filler (or some type of epoxy) was used liberally to build out edges of sub-grade lumber. This is an unacceptable practice, given how visible it is. I personally would see past these consider if the stool was sturdy. This is not the case. The stool wobbles on the slightest touch. I'm a hobbiest woodworker, and am confident in my ability to assemble a stool. The other one turned out fine, therefore I'm not the problem. I ordered these right before moving to a new apartment. I only discovered these defects after the 30 day return window closed. I contacted the manufacturer via the only email address listed in the product's instructions (parts@powellcompany) but they were unable to assist. Their reply can be found below: "I am sorry you are having so much trouble. It sounds like both stools were made in 2 different factories. Unfortunately, we do not send out whole items only parts so you will need to contact the retailer where it was purchased for either an exchange or refund." Seeing as how the manufacturer is unwilling to stand behind their product I can not recommend these stools or anything else from the Powell brand.
