I love camping gear and lanterns and somehow have never gotten one of these kind of inflatable lanterns before so was curious to check it out. It comes in a pretty nice looking retail box that would make a nice gift. The box includes the lantern and a charging cable. The lantern ships deflated and packed flat so it takes up less space. To inflate it the first time took me a second to figure out because the air nozzle does a good job of keeping air from leaking out, but also from getting in. I found that giving the nozzle a little squeeze to loosen up the seal helped a lot with getting the lantern into its final form and letting me inflate it. Operation of the lantern is pretty simple, there's just 2 buttons: power, and battery level. You can push the power button to cycle through 3 brightness levels, and then a strobe/blinking mode, and the battery level button just has some little lights on the unit light up to indicate how much juice it's got. The light level is good, it reflects nicely, does a fine job of lighting up a space like the size of a tent or a small room. Even the lowest setting is adequate. If I had to offer some critical feedback on this, probably my biggest concern with it would be there are some plastic/vinyl strips that go across both sides of the lantern, which can presumably be used to hang it from things or attach it to things. I understand why they went with the plastic on the side with the solar panel, so it can be clear and not block the solar, but if I'm being honest I feel like those strips seem like the kind of thing that would be the weak point on this and wouldn't surprise me if they don't last. It wouldn't be the end of the world if the strips weren't there, so it's not that big of a deal, just offering some feedback. Overall though, this seems like a fine lantern, I like the size of it, the amount of light it puts out, and the solar panel.

Light for 7-24+ hours fully charged

I’ve owned several MPowerd LUCI products. This is the full-size version which is great for camping. I also have the emergency and color versions which are smaller and convenient for packing. These are great to have in any situation when you will be in the dark without electricity. The plastic is clear with attachment bars on both the top and bottom. The bottom bar has one step adjust to attach around a thicker bar. I’m still torn about clear plastic. While it’s great when you use the light as a flashlight, it’s glaring as light for eating or playing games. Frosted plastic on the curved sides would be better. You can diffuse the light by covering it with a thin cloth over it or turning it upside down on the table. Inflating the light has always been a little awkward. The valve is hard to hold and pinch while blowing. It will always protrude. Because of the attachment bars, valve, the charge port, this light cannot sit completely flat. It’s not ideal. The claims about hours of light hold up well. I charged the light via wall outlet. In high mode the light lasted 7 hours. In low mode, the light lasted continuously for 27+ hours. For solar charging it needs to be direct sunlight. Indirect light all day didn’t add much. I hope this lasts awhile, cycling through the modes will wear down the button over time. When my kids were little they wore out my old one playing with the buttons too much.

A great camping lantern

We have had one of the first generation versions of this lantern for years and we love it, so we jumped at the opportunity to get the newest model. It's a lightweight inflatable solar lantern, perfect for camping. It has 3 brightness levels and a flashing mode. You can charge it via the solar panel on top (which work really well even on overcast days) or via USB C (a charging cable is included, but not a wall adapter to plug it into). This version has a button you can press to see how much charge the lantern has left, which is a handy feature. A full charge lasts a really long time, a full day on the lowest light setting. Mine arrived fully charged. There's a hanging/carrying strap on top that has a connecting snap in the middle so you can hang it from a strap, loop or tentpole. It can be collapsed flat for storage. It's water resistant (haven't tried submerging it in water, but it s fine in rain). My only slight dislike is the inflation valve. It doesn't auto-close so it can be quite tricky to get the stopper in without it deflating. It provides plenty of light to light a tent at night. One of our favorite camping lanterns by far.

great for camping

This is a great lantern for camping or power outages. It holds a charge a long time and provides a lot of light per charge. The solar charging works great - you just have to set it in the sun. If it's not sunny, the addition of the USB charging cord and port is very helpful. I like that they made the USB port with a plug to cover it to keep dust, dirt, etc from getting into it. My husband is slightly concerned about the solar panel being sturdy enough to hold up to a lot of use, but we've had the previous version of this lantern for years and used it quite a bit and it's fine (despite the same concern). I really like the design of this lantern. It can be tricky to inflate it with your breath for the first time, but once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy. The inflatable 'lantern' part works just as well as a glass lantern, but is sooooo much lighter and therefore more portable. I think these little guys are essential for camping / backpacking and they are great for power outages as well. When camping, you can hang it from the top of the tent and it will light up the whole tent quite comfortably. It has three brightness settings as well as a flashing light setting. It's also very comfortable to carry with you and provides more light than a flashlight.
