You really need an all metal drain basket, no plastic.

This is a nice drain insert. All metal, not plastic. My home had a plastic drain insert which I discovered when attempting to replace it. All the silver coloring had come off the old drain insert so it did not look nice in my stainless steel sink. This one fit great, looks much better too. I received this as a used item and it was missing a part and instructions, but I used a part from my old drain insert and it worked out fine.

Moen kitchen sink strainer

We feel the made in China… My wife doesn’t appreciate the way she has to lock it to keep the water in the sink ! Anyway good price.

Very easy to install

The drain piece fits perfectly and I love how no plumbers putty is needed due to it having a nice rubber seal. It looks great and after a few months still looks new. Great replacement item for a very reasonable price!

Get the one with the "tin cup" if you can

As the picture suggest, there is a "tin cup" below that snugs up to the gaskets with a nut. I tried the other type without the "tin cup" and the gaskets got distorted when trying to tighten up the nut which made it leak. Using the "tin cup" prevented this and avoided twisting the gaskets.

OUTSTANDING, this newer design is EXCELLENT been using these when I find them

I changed hundreds of these over the past 40 years and this design is by far the best local lumber yard have similar for $26. These are heavy duty. Don't really care for the weird strainer insert but the rest is Excellent... extremely easy to install and no worrying about tearing gasket when tightening.... Also Never use plumbers putty, Just use 100% SILICONE and it will last year's longer then putty , just let it dry at least 12 hrs

Bought For New Sink

Bought two of these basket strainers for my new sink. The plumber had no issue installing them. They seem to do the trick. They look great.

Great Moen quality, but the strainer leaves something to be desired

I had to replace some old kitchen sink drains, that were some kind of plastic which shattered as I removed them. However, these are all metal and easy to install. The strainers are smaller than the opening, which causes food to slip past. They also close too easily as a water stopper. I would recommend ordering some new strainers, such as the MSC International Joie or just simple strainer baskets.

Good classic metal sink drain.

It's a pretty basic drain. Not as fancy as some more modern designs but it's precisely the classic drain design you probably grew up with. All metal body, good sturdy gauge of steel. Metal nuts. That classic stainless steel finish, not a fully mirrored finish but still polished shiny along the top exposed surface with a hint of grain. This is THE classic kitchen sink drain. Time tested, you won't ever have to think about this drain again once it's installed properly. I have the following concerns: The stopper cannot fit into the strainer at any angle. The clip on the bottom has flat edges and needs to be installed reasonably straight into the slot in the strainer. I see most newer style drain stoppers have a round centre post that installs at any orientation usually with some kind of spring clip on the bottom of the post to keep it from popping out. The housing lock nut threads are not very deep. It will only fit comfortably on a metal or other type of thin walled sink. If you have a plastic, fibreglass, or similar utility sink that is thicker than a metal sink then you should not buy this, it will be a tight fit at best. Last, they do not include a flanged tailpiece. It seems about 50/50 if drains include this part or not. This one does not so remember to buy it separately (Standard brass ones are usually about $3 from plumbing store, $6 at big box store, these little accessory items and fittings are where the big box places gouge on price) I do not currently see any basic brass tailpieces for sale from Amazon I can link to.

Check sink thickness first

Had to return; it would not fit the sink. Diameter is ok but my sink is approx. ½ inch thickness, which lowers the housing too close to the slip nut to tighten it fully. As such, I did not install or test it. Good quality for the price but better suited for a thinner sink. The outlet of the strainer is recessed very deep and contains threads that may be difficult to access and clean. The basket is stamped with “Moen” logo. The box also contains an extra rubber gasket (or you can seal with plumbers putty). Includes a washer but the tailpiece itself is sold separately. No instructions.

Superior quality

This drain incorporates the use of a sleeve and ring which offers far better compression than the simple ring design. Very impressed with the quality.
