A must for rear mounted spares

If you leave your car unlocked when you park it on a street or in a remote parking lot, then you probably don't need these because you live in a better part of the country than I do. However, if you have a rear mounted spare tire that is easily accessible by anyone with a socket wrench, then it just makes sense to have one of these locking it in place.

Wheel locks

There wheel locks. They do what there suppose to do. Really easy to install. Gives a bit more sense of security knowing I have them on.

Easy to install if you have a wrench and socket (Incorrect vehicle compatibility)

Quality product and easy to install if you have a 1/2" drive wrench and the right socket size to take the key provided. However, the vehicle compatibility configurator on Amazon is incorrect. You are likely to order a set of lug nuts that the website says is ok, but it does not fit your vehicle. Better to go to the product manufacturer's website and check for the right model #, come back here and order.

Corroded on inside

Rust and corrosion on the very far inside of the lug nuts. I used a Q-tip with some very light oil to clean. I also did not torque to the spec of 130 ft/lb because of a crunching sound, possibly plating cracking, not sure.

Not 100% theft proof

Received package with corrosion residue. How long has this been sitting the warehouse? Soaked/cleaned the wheel locks in WD40 to remove corrosion residue. EZ to install, and it gives me some sense of securities and peace of mind.

Yes it’s a wheel lock....sorta

My wife bought a 2020 Wrangler with the Willys package, that package includes the Rubicon rims painted black. A friend of ours mentioned those rims were “very desirable” and may walk off if we park in a questionable area. Saw the reviews on these and were mostly positive so I got them. Install was easy, take one off, put one on. The key you get has 2 size lugs one it so the factory tire iron will work (someone said it won’t). My only issue with these it goes long they are. Sure you’ll need a tire iron to remove the others, but I feel you could take these off with pliers. Only real secure one I feel is the spare tire as it’s “locked” behind the backup camera cover. Will they make it harder for someone to walk off with the tires? Sure. Will it stop someone who’s bound and determined to get those rims? Nope.

Keep your wheels secure

I put these lug nut locks on my 2021 JL. They blend in with the other chrome lugs on the black wheels. With the 5 lugs on this set, you can secure all four wheels on the road as well as the spare. The lock lugs will deter or slow down thrives. I'd like to see these available in red. But the chromes work well.

McGard 24515 Chrome Cone Seat Wheel Locks (M14 x 1.5 Thread Size)

These wheel locks are just a big longer than the stock lug nuts so they are pretty much not noticeable. The "key" socket fits very well with no indication of slipping off when loosening or tightening. Looks good, works well. Just some more peace of mind. And there are 5 locks so I can secure the spare tire, unlike some others kits with only 4 locks.
