This lock is what other smart home manufacturers should strive for

What turns me off to a lot smart home products is that “quality of form” does not meet the aspect of the functionality the product is trying to represent. An example of this for me is the August brand of smart locks. This brand gets a lot of praise for the functionality of its smart lock, but it will not get one moment of consideration from me cause it’s design is absolutely ridiculous. If I had it on any of my doors, I know that It would have to be replaced in the future if I decided to move because the very look of it screams smart home and draws attention to itself negatively, not to mention, reducing the overall value of the home it sits in. I believe the smart home should be discrete, not screaming “Hey! Look at me! While it may be ok for smart lights to do this once and awhile. I feel much differently when it comes to the security of my home. The Level Door lock aims to make the smart home discrete. While it is not perfect and installation was far more difficult than it had to be, the ending results make this product worth the effort. The product itself was not easy to install. I’m not a smart home novice. I install Lutron Caseta smart switch’s for breakfast and have other brands of smart locks in my home and for a lock that boasts ease of install it shouldn’t have been as difficult as it was. I blame this on the design. This product does not meet the “it just works” criteria that well designed products usually do. As versions improve with time I feel this would not be something difficult to correct. This product came with all the parts required and instructions were very clear. Pointing back to the slightly flawed design. The opening for the lock shaft rotates back and forth “obviously” to lock and unlock the door. This sleeve while a robust piece of metal it extends slightly past the entire body of the locking mechanism. When fastening my door lock switch face plate back together, tightening down the screws back to normal was causing the rotating sleeve of the lock to be pinched by the face plate of the lock. This pinching was hindering the locking and unlocking operation causing jams and time out which gave me errors in the app and home kit. After fiddling and adjusting the final solution was to ease up on how tight I was screwing in the face plate. To me, this isn’t an acceptable solution as with time the screws would eventually back out with constant locking and unlocking. Since I knew that the screws would loosen over time I added a bit of lock tight to resolve this. I know that the solution to my problem is only about a sentence or two long but the process to getting there results in a two star grade. The average user might have called it quitting time and returned the product. This part is important! After you get the Level App installed and the lock has been added to your home via home kit or however you control your smart home. Go into the Level App and into the settings and perform a calibration for the lock. This helped a lot with the lock functionality as before this I was experiencing jams and time outs. The calibration fixed this completely. For Apple home kit users, you may notice unresponsiveness or incredibly long pauses between locking and unlocking, yet in the Level App it is nearly instantaneous. In the Level App under settings again, make sure the “boosted range” switch is on. This greatly improves home kit performance. I can’t flaw the Level Lock for this nor speak on the behalf of other smart home services. My money is on that it is most likely an Apple problem as most situations regarding responsiveness usually are. Despite the more complicated install I am super pleased with the ending result. The lock looks like nothing was ever changed. Despite the automation of locking and unlocking and the chime that goes along with those actions one would never know that it is smart.

Extremely frustrating experience

We like the fact that Level Bolt converts our bolt lock to a smart wireless controlled lock. There have been some extreme issues and frustrations, though, about with what other products it links up with, such as needing Ring doorbell pro compared to other ring doorbell products. There needs to be better information with these regards. We have been dealing with this for about a month now and still are not able to control it form a distance as we had hoped. We contacted customer support and were given the option to get a call back. About an hour later a customer support person called us back. We told him the situation. He then gave us some wrong information and then apparently hung up on us. We then called back and decided to wait on the phone for a customer support person. After a lengthy wait, Brandon, a customer support person, came on the line. We spent over 4 hours with Brandon, who actually was very helpful, but we were still not able to resolve the issues of not being able to control the lock at a distance. Over all, a very frustrating experience between dealing with Level bolt and Ring customer support.

Great way to stealthily add "smarts" to your deadbolt

Picked up a refurbished model to save a few bucks and not disappointed. All the parts were in the box and battery level reported as "healthy" after installation and app setup. Why you'll love it: - keep all your existing interior/exterior hardware - your keys will still work because you retain the original lock - use the Level app or Apple Home Kit to lock/unlock doors - Automate when you'd like to doors to lock/unlock. We have the front door lock 30 seconds after closing the door. - Get alerts when the lock is used ... like say when teens are coming/going from the home. - pretty straight forward installation process 'Key' learnings: - the Level locking mechanism isn't the exact same dimensions as my original deadbolt so the trying to line up the interior/exterior hardware to the original paint marks caused the bolt to bind up a bit. The motor inside of the Level couldn't fully lock the door as a result and popped an error. i had to loosen the hardware to allow for a more natural alignment of the parts which freed up the assembly considerably and now Level is happy. Will have to touch up the paint. - if Level doesn't make an audible "chime" sound after installing the battery and slotting in the dead bolt part ... you have the battery in backwards. ;) - I found it a bit challenging to properly fit the Level lock mechanism into the hole in the door and have it line up with the dead bolt part. Where the hole was drilled had slightly different offset dimensions for the original lock making it a really tight fit. fortunately i didn't have to cut or sand the hole out larger, just used the screw driver handle to tap it into place while wiggling the body of the lock mechanism. it eventually became a perfect press fit. - Your smartphone communicates with the Level lock via bluetooth so you need to be within a few feet of the door ... certainly less than 30. - i've found using apps to lock/unlock the door to be hit miss. The Level app seems to work best and be most reliable. Controlling the lock from Apple's Home Kit can be really delayed or not work sometimes for me. However, my wife's app works flawlessly so you mileage may vary. Overall, this is a really cool way to make your home "smarter" by gaining the ability to lock/unlock doors from the convenience of your smartphone, without fumbling for keys, while retaining the original style points of your chosen hardware. In addition to the automation aspects you can also configure the app to give you alerts when status changes.

Increíble funciona perfecto

Mi hermana me regaló un August Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4G que no le funcionó porque pensó que su configuración de su red era mala se desespero y me lo regalo, así, incursione en esto de la domótica, instale el August y era frustrante como nunca sabías si te iba a abrir o cerrar, así es que ya con un poco por necedad por tener mi puerta inteligente me puse a buscar, pero TODOS los cerrojos Smart, son horribles, pero encontré este Level Bolt, leí leí y leí en internet reviews, me convenció y me arriesgue. Se adapto perfecto a mi cerradura KWIKSET HALIFAX y a la instalación ya hecha, sin problemas, ya que las medidas están estandarizadas, los terminados son perfectos muy bien cuidados, cuando lo abres parece que estás abriendo un iPhone nuevo del nivel de detalle del empaque desde ahí ves cuánto han cuidado el desarrollo del producto. Muchos se quejan que no funciona con ALEXA o google assistant, lo cual a mi me tenia sin cuidado ya que en principio era nuevo en esto de comenzar a auotomatizar la casa, así es que podía ir con el asistente virtual que quisiera, FUNCIONA CON SIRI DE APPLE, Lo cual no supuso ningún problema para mi ya que soy un consumidor habitual de Apple (iPhone, iPad, appleTV, Mac y recientemente HomePod original). La configuración es súper fácil me tomo 3 minutos y como si conectaras unos AirPods por arte de magia vez que todo funciona perfectamente integrado con HomeKit, creo que esta cerradura es perfecta por el momento es estable la confección y el uso con HomeKit es fluido. Ahora ya me entusiasme y estoy automatizando todo lo que se puede con HomeKit, algo que antes ni le había prestado atención, es cierto que Siri no están inteligente como Alexa pero lo que hace fluye perfecto y todo está perfectamente integrado, ya hasta cambie mis bocinas Bang and Olufsen que ya no son compatibles con AirPlay 2 por HomePods grandes que por cierto suenan impresionantes si los conectas en pares tienen un sonido espectacular y para hacer smart la casa están perfectos (lastima que los descontinuaron).
