Fragile part

So I bought this and replacement filters probably a year ago. It took me this long to get around to using it because the filter was just a tough cookie! We inherited the filtration system when we bought the place, so it's probably been 3+ years since cleaned/changed/user. I also was unclear how to use the sump wrench. I thought I could just pop the top off and swap out the filter. Nope! I won't bore you with my failures, here's what I did that worked: I removed the water lines to disconnect it completely and then slid this "filter wrench" from the bottom up. Once secure I grabbed a rubber mallet and gently tapped the lid in the right direction. That --finally!! -- loosened the top and I was able to do a deep clean. So do I recommend this thing? Probably not, I think it will snap in half and I'm pretty sure I can hold the filter securely without it. Do I recommend the rubber mallet? Hell yeah, it did the heavy lifting. I'd recommend replacing your filter more than every three years as well! Pic is a demonstration of what I did, and the second is from GE's user manual.

Doesn't fit Brita USS-120

Search results told me this would fit the Brita USS-120, it does not. The pattern is wrong and it's too small.

Did the job

Had a water filter that hadn't been changed for years because I couldn't get it off (under the sink and too tight). Bought this wrench and got the filter off in a few minutes.

Would be easier for women if the handle was longer adding more leverage.

It would be easier for women if the handle was longer for better leverage. I couldn’t turn the filter to unscrew. Had to call plumber.

Replacement for original

The original broke so I got this. Works fine but I think over time it will break also.

Handy wrench to replace water filters.

After trying with hand and other pipe and oil filter wrenches, I decided to buy the GE Filter Wrench. The other wrenches marred the surface of the filter casing and could not get them loosened. With the GE Filter Wrench removing the casing and replacing the filter was a breeze. However, I feel the price of nearly $20 to be expensive. For owners of GE Water Filtering Systems or buyers of GE water filters this wrench should be offered at a nominal price of about $5.
