Easier than my power probe!

Been a mechanic is the agricultural field for 23 years now and with all the new technology that is coming out and numerous tools out there in the market i started researching found the power probe for short/open finder did not like it due to its complexity so went with my second choice the short buddy and man so simple straightforward helped me find a short for a A/C system in a Cab tractor that was constantly blowing up a 30amp fuse hooked up the short buddy and in 10 minutes found the the cause of the short, got good hope for this tool if you’re blowing fuses constantly or intermittently I recommend it!!!!!!

Simply the Best of Its Kind!, ..... Finds the short unlike any conventional tool

I do not know if this diagnostic electrical tool was intended for a mid-level skilled, not certified avid do it yourself guy, but the tool is priceless. It does EXACTLY what it indicates, finds the short! The tool has NO lack of quality. The case is sturdy and the leads are well sealed. It comes with a blow-molded case, which is VERY IMPORTANT because I would say the only weakness of the tool is it is vulnerable to being damaged IF DROPPED. To remedy this I made a temporary wrist lanyard until I can make a better quality one. IF you do decide to get this tool: 1) READ the instructions, it is a fine instrument and you need to use it in the proper manner to avoid ruining the tool or receiving the wrong results. The 1st two times I used the tool, the order of setup was slow, however; once you go thru the motions it is a SIMPLE and easy going tool to use. You can get results in minutes, not hours. Do realize that this tool will not be applicable to use on every type of wiring circuit situation. I also bought ESI 181_Load pro w/ book, which will help with what the short buddy can not be plugged too, also the ESI 190 Relay buddy is helpful. In my particular situation, taking it to my known mechanic to JUST run the tests would have cost me just under $600.00(for real) , when I found the area in 7 minutes and it cost me about $230.00 for ALL 3 ESI tools and a little wiring, that says it all right there! I would recommend this tool to any mature and responsible person who has a good understanding of auto wiring. The price and service where just as exceptionally great as this tool is at Amazon , and I mean ONLY it could be Amazon!

short buddy

I give it 3 stars mainly because it seems a bit on the cheaply made side and when I purchased it it was winter and very cold. The short buddy does not like to work in cold weather. I had to tap it to get it to work so that was a chore. when I heated it up it worked ok I had to keep fiddling with it every now and then to keep it working properly, but when it was warm it seemed to work fine.

Must have for techs

ASE master tech and Ford master tech review here. Having used the more common fuse saver kit that most of the trucks will sell you, I had to leave a positive review for this awesome tool. Huge time saver - no more leaving the problem area to flip circuit breaker switches back on. Don't let the fuse holder thing fool you, this does act as a circuit breaker in auto mode and won't leave you with a handful of blown fuses. The fuse is there if you choose to use it in manual mode. To be fair, I've only used it for one repair so far and I did need to tweak the fuse holder terminal slightly to get it to line up properly. The automatic reset feature at $50 less than the fuse saver master kit makes this the obvious choice for my box

Great for Intermitent Shorts

I purchased this recently and had my first chance to use it. A customers battery was being drained when the car sat for a couple of days. However, the short was intermitent, and sometimes the battery was fine. The day I had the car there was no drain, so I decided to give this tool a try. After moving and shaking wires all over the car, I found a short under the dash when I moved a couple of wires. It turns out the wire was pinched between a dash part. This is on a 37 ford. Long story short the tool allow us to find a short which no one had found before.
