Surge Guard 09543 14-50/14-30 plug

This is the plug you want. I purchased two 14-50 plugs, which can also be 14-30 plugs, from Amazon. The first, a yellow plug with a handle, is good, but the screws go into plastic, no nuts. This plug has nuts and bolts, no screw is attached into plastic. Both plugs wire the same, but I like that this "Surge Guard 09543" plug is held together with a nut and a bolt. I liked the handle on the yellow plug, but this plug has an area on both sides to assist with its' removal. I hope this helps someone decide.

WARNING: DO NOT USE FOR CONSTANT CURRENT

I bought one and properly installed it as an adapter from a 30 amp plug to a 50 amp plug ONLY TO USE with an item that pulls 30 amps. In less than 2 months of use at 2-5 hours at a time and pulling 30 amps continuous with use 3-5 times a week, the connector failed, overheated, and caused a fire hazard that was avoided only by unplugging the unit. I bought a replacement assuming that the first was merely defective and it lasted 4 months before failing in the same, very dangerous, manner. I would NOT recommend this product if you need a constant current connector, and would also NOT recommend this product in general. It feels like it's decent when it first arrives, but it quickly causes an insanely high hazard.

Plug fit the bill

I made a heavy duty power cord with this plug to connect a gasoline generator to our house through a 50 amp outlet for emergency power. I tested it out and it did what I expected.

Surge Guard Questionable...

Seems good but nowhere on the box are paperwork mentions the words Surge Guard. I find that somewhat troubling. Other that that it seems as good as most standard plugs that are similar.

works and appears durable

These plugs are sturdy and pretty easy to work with. It's just a reboxed Cooper brand plug, which is a good thing. The contacts slide out to make it easier to connect fat wires.
