very sheer

I was expecting a thicker fabric, but these pants were see through and paper thin. I returned them because I was looking for something different. They were not very soft. I thought they ran true to size, but if you are in between sizes, I would go up, not down. They are probably best for tall, lean people, as they don't have much give. The thin fabric seemed delicate.

Skinny Merino Wool Thermal Pants

Sizes in clothing doesn’t seem to be a precise science, I have a body size between S & M for most brand names . Many times I get smalls and they fit as a body glove. Not for these pants. The size is on the smaller side and the material is not very giving or stretchy. The waist is fine, its elastic is 23”, however the hips & legs 17” are just too skinny for me. All the seams are double stitched and the finishing is well done. I will mostly like to give them to a very thin friend to enjoy better that I will.

Run Very Small, slightly itchy

Normally I wear a size small in pants but these are really snug in the thighs. It was difficult to even get them on, I had to wiggle around for about 3 minutes before I accepted they would not go up any higher. Because my thighs took up so much space, the bottom of the pant rose about 3 inches above my knee which defeats the purpose of a base layer, you want your ankles covered. I know wool doesn’t stretch but these really are very small fitting, I would say go up a size or two, especially if you’re wider hipped.

Ultrathin

This is a set of ultrathin wool longies. The fabric is 100% wool. Washing instructions say machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. The fabric is a very thin knit, almost like silk stockings. The waist band is 1” wide elastic with the Coldpruf logo woven throughout. The cuffs are simple hems, not elastic. The garment was made in Mexico of US components. I like how thin these longies are—they will fit under my tightest pants. They also look good (in my opinion) under a skirt. For base layer, I am used to much thicker garments, like my Smartwools. These are not quite as comfortable or thick as the Smartwools, and not at all stretchy. But they do add some nice warmth. I am 5’2” and weigh 117 lbs. I tried size small, and they were snug but OK. A little constricting in the knees, and I have to sit down to tug these Coldprufs on. Once on, they fit fine, but they feel a lot more like silk stockings than wool undies. Overall, these longies are great for when you need some base layer warmth but you don’t have room for any added thickness.

100% Merino, but not itchy!

I'd say these run small. The size small just fit on a 5'3", 110lb woman with a small frame. Very snug in the thigh area. Not at all uncomfortable but there certainly isn't much wiggle room. Because they are a very thin wool, don't expect them to have the stretch of a synthetic fiber. For merino wool they seem quite soft. The fact that they are quite thin and snug means they fit well under a variety of pants. The only thing that was a bit odd, and why only 4 starts instead of 5, is the front of the waist band comes up higher than it does in the back. Maybe this is only a problem for women with a little more "backside." It makes for a slightly awkward feel because it bunches up a little in the front and feels like it should come up higher in the back. As an aside...I looked up the ColdPruf company and noted on their website that they are a USA based company - it says "designed and knit" in the USA. Yet the packaging I got said made in Mexico, so I guess they are only referring to the fabric and outsource the sewing.

Nice Material, but not Flexible Enough

I got these for my wife to try out. She has used Smartwools in the past, and was wondering how these would compare. She reports that the Coldprufs are comfortable and quite thin, which allows them to be used under most of her clothing, even jeans. However, because they are thinner than the Smartwools, they don't seem to provide as much warms. Also, they are not as flexible as the Smartwools, and fit really tightly, which makes them less comfortable to wear throughout the day. My wife says that these do have a place on days that are not as cold. Overall, these are OK, but if you need warmth and flexibility you might want to go with something else.
