Guess I got lucky with a good one
I'm glad I didn't read all the bad reviews first (I normally do) because I don't have any of the issues they did. Yes, the instructions leave much to be desired (I found a YouTube video that makes them much clearer). I'm not a total amateur when it comes to assembling things but I'm certainly no Norm Abram, and I was still able to figure it out. It took me about 20 minutes only because I had one badly machined bolt that wouldn't fit the nut no matter what I did. I fortunately had a close match in my work bench. The rest went in fine. My chair is sturdy and level. It doesn't spin as freely as I'd like but it might loosen up over time. I'm not denying the negative reviews. It seems like it might be the luck of the draw whether you have problems or not, which is unfortunate. It seems like a good quality stool if you get a good one. (One star removed for useless instructions and one bad bolt.)

Works, but room for improvement
Stable enough, but would have been even better if legs were more flared. Seat is OK, but not super thick. I installed w/o swivel. More detailed instructions would have been helpful. Long screws are for the circular stabilization of the legs. If I knew that, it would have been a time saver. I'll keep it, because it works and it would be more of a pain to take it apart and repack it, but if money is not an object, there are probably better choices. Good economy model.

Very diverse stool that looks good anywhere.
I like the fact that the seat swivels because I'm consecrated turning back and forth adjusting my equipment. And it looks great in my home recording studio.

I bought stool for workbench, perfect! Seat is NOT leather, but otherwise very good for the price.
Right away, as others have noted, the seat is not leather, says right on front of box "Commercial Grade Vinyl", padding is fine, it does give in, but is comfortable and rebounds after use. To the people complaining about assembly, I never even opened the instruction booklet, it was very intuitive to me how it was to go together. Here are some tips and steps I followed to make assembly as easy as possible (You will need a #3 Phillips head screwdriver and 10 mm box end or open end wrench) - 1. If you have a workbench or other elevated surface, start assembly near it 2. Remove all items from box, remove plastic covering from everything. 3. Lean the legs against your workbench or surface, put seat upside down on bench, leave swivel mechanism on bench 4. Unpack bolts, nuts and washers, sort them out in matching sets, 4 shorter bolts with washer and nuts, 4 longer bolts with washers and nuts, one countersunk head bolt with washer and nut 5. The countersunk head bolt is what you will use to assemble the 2 leg pieces together. Put the leg set with flat spot in center under the other leg set at 90 degree angle. The top leg set should have a countersunk hole, put the countersunk head bolt in the hole, put washer and nut on other end and tighten, tighten fully as you will not be able to get to the head later. 6. Now take the swivel assembly and rotate top so it resembles a 6 pointed star when looking at it from above, this will allow access to the bolts to assemble to both legs and seat 7. Set the swivel assembly on top of the legs you just assembled (don't put leg ring on yet, wait!) 8. Using the 4 shorter bolts, drop them through the slots on the swivel plate through the holes on the top of the leg assembly. After all 4 bolts are though, put the washers and nuts on other end, hand tighten 9. Now, with the leg assembly standing up, drop the foot rest ring over the legs, pay attention to line up the holes in the ring with the legs. Push it into approximate position. 10. Now lay the assembly down horizontally, position yourself at the bottom of the leg assembly, pull the ring into place to line up hole in ring with hole in leg by sight, now drop one of the longer bolts though both holes, make sure it goes through the foot rest and the leg. Do this for the remaining 3 holes in the foot rest. 11. Now stand the stool back up, put washers and nuts on all 4 bolts, now tighten the bolts fully. 12. Go back and fully tighten the bolts on the swivel assembly. 13. With seat face down on bench, remove the 4 countersunk screw bolts from seat 14. Set leg assembly on top of seat, line up holes in top part of swivel assembly with holes in seat, put one bolt in a time, hand tighten. Once all bolts are through swivel assembly, tighten fully. That is it, sounds like a lot, but it goes very quickly if you have proper #3 Phillips screw driver and 10 mm wrench. Took me no more than 20 minutes from opening box, unwrapping parts and full assembly. Hope this helps others.

Need an engineer to assemble
I'm no slouch at assembly. I know my way around tools. I assemble Ikea stuff. This thing has FIVE parts. Should be a piece of cake, right? NO. The instructions and parts give no indication of which set of legs goes on top. That's important. No indication of which side is up with the swivel plate. Also important. Does it say you should barely put in the bolts holding the ring to the legs, then carefully tighten them a little at a time as you work around it? No, it does not. I spent fifteen minutes on it, then took it home so my husband the mechanical engineer could do it before I chucked it through a window. This company could do a lot better with the instructions.

More assembly required than originally thought
I usually roll my eyes at these assembly posts but this item really was challenging to put together. So just be prepared. Great stool for the price! If you have good drill and a free afternoon, shouldn't be a problem for you.

Previously returned product?
The feet caps were on the bottom right out of the box. Instructions show putting on caps as a step in set up. I’m sure once it’s put together it would be just fine but I never got that far. It just looked like a real pain in the ass to put together and for me it was a bit to high. Return went well though.

Good purchase!
An overall good purchase! Really comfy, only down side i would say would be the directions need to be a little more detailed but we were able to figure it out and we’re happy with the purchase!

Great quality, good price
Comfortable, very sturdy, look great in our 50s themed kitchen. They come packed flat and are easy to put together. There aren't really clear assembly instructions included but I found a video on youtube and easily followed along to make them. Super happy with these and the price cannot be beat!

Near perfect for my guitar practice, but finish could be better....
I needed a bar stool with foot rest for my guitar practice, and having looked at the branded versions (Fender, Gibson et la) which were massively overpriced, I settled on this one. Easy assembly took about 20 mins. The rotating seat pad was a little stiff to start with, but has loosened up with use. However I was somewhat disappointed with the finish of the legs/frame. Thin walled tubing is used with what looks like a very thin chrome electroplated finish. There are marks on the footrest ring from the machine used to bend it very visible through the inconsistent chrome finish. In a moist atmosphere my guess is it would soon show signs of corrosion. Don't get me wrong, the stool is sturdy and is perfect for its intended task. Its just the finish that lets it down.

Bought on amazons refurbished page, perfect condition!
I bought this for a steal! Figured it'd have a rip in it or tarnished, missing screws ...something! NOTHING! it is perfect! Its super sturdy, comfortable and the right height. Very happy with this purchase.

Sturdy, simple and gets the job done.
Sturdy, simple, and gets the job done. I use this at a custom counter I built into my office so I can stand at my desk and sit down easily. Works well.

Great bang for the buck!
Exactly what I expected for the price! The quality outweighs the cost... perfect for my shop, other than the fact that the crew has a place to sit now LOL
