This is a decent light, but I won't exaggerate and say that it's rugged or the best. My comparison is against the Streamlight Siege which is better than this light in every except one; runtime. The Siege is older so it's less efficient per lumen, but it's easily better in design and ruggedness. Simple example is the battery door. The Siege ends with a snap so that it's locked in place whereas the Nite Ize just twists until it stops. The Siege bottom won't/can't accidentally twist off or loosen, but the Nite Ize can. Another basic design difference is that the diffuser is part of the lantern and therefore always with it, attached whereas the Nite Ize uses a separate pouch that can get lost, dirty, etc. The feel of the lights is also completely different with the Siege feeling very robust, strong, and made of thick/rigid plastic whereas the Nite Ize feels very thin and light in material. There is absolutely no way I would consider the Nite Ize rugged at all. No way, no how. All that being said, for emergencies, this light is great and good enough for around the house. The efficiency of lumen per hour is excellent. Would I want it for camping? No as the Siege is way better. Would I want it for emergencies where it'll sit on counters, tables, etc.? Yes as it'll be relatively safe from damage. Would I want it to light my way outside when letting the dogs out as I did during Hurricane Irma? No, I grabbed the Siege. If you want something that's truly rugged and for harsher conditions such as heavy rains, flooding, camping, kids, etc., then go with the Siege. If there's the possibility of it being dropped or bounced around, go with the Siege. If it's going to sit on a table to light up a room, go with the Nite Ize.

Poor Design for the Purpose
The light is bright, and I like being able to use batteries for when out in the sticks with no charger, but the light only shines from the sides of the upper half, so when you hang it in your tent up in the peak very little/very muted light is all that makes it to the floor or chair where you are trying to see. It needs to be designed so that when you hang it it provides more light below. Works just find when on a table at waist or chest height. Not using camping anymore, just as a backup light for power outages.

Have weight but strong.
I bought for camp and emergency. Rechargeable not on optional. (3 D-cell battery) 3 bright modes 400/170/30 lumen. 30 lumen works about 800hours (30days) as described.

Nice and bright!!!
Very bright light on the highest setting. Got this for occasional power outages since the lantern I had last outage was pitifully dim. Nice that there are three settings. High lights up my entire living room. Well made too.

Well worth the money, and we definitely do the batteries over the rechargeable. Especially if you're going camping. I don't particularly like rechargeable lights because when you need him there never charged and a lot easier to grab batteries

Good for inside large tent
bought this because it seems like good value alternative to the rechargeable lanterns It takes 3 large d batteries but they last ages and it kicks out a reasonable amount of light. It worked for lighting up the interior of our large family tent. There are 3 brightness settings, all controlled by cycling through with the one main button, we used the middle one, and the lowest at bedtime The lantern is nice and sturdy, and I'm pleased with my purchase

Light up my life
I just used this light for three consecutive days/nights at medium setting. It easily lasted 72 hours which is within the 112 hours claimed at this setting. Withstood some heavy rain as well. Good lantern

Good light but MISLEADING RUNTIMES. (Battery Rundown tests)
If you are looking at this light, you were probably attracted to the INSANE RUNTIME numbers. The 3 light modes marketed are: 26 Hours on full (400 Lumens)= 1 Day 112 Hours at mid (170 Lumens) = 4.6 Days An INSANE 795 hours at low (30 Lumens) = 33 DAYS!?! I did two battery rundown test on High and Medium using 3 fresh 10,000 mah rechargable D batteries. THE RESULTS: Yes you will get those hours but NOT THE LUMENS. The High mode does get you 26 Hours, and when the test starts, the light output is quite strong. By the 18 Hour mark, the light is cut by half and by 24 Hours, the light is cut in half again, (similar to it's low setting). At full light, the light is great to do anything you need like reading, cooking, or just lighting up a 100 sq ft room. The Medium Mode is why I bought this light I live in snow country, and power outages are a big concern. Having a long lasting light for days while a power line is being repaired is critical for me. I started my test on Medium light mode with fresh charged batteries. Same thing. Great light output at medium, but by day 2, the light output was cut in half. By the end up day 4, basically a nightlight. This mode is great for lighting a room so you can walk around and not bump into things during a blackout. You can eat by it, but nothing really work related. I have NOT done the 30 day Low Light mode test. However I suspect the same halving lumens results at 15 days. At low light mode, the light output is a solid night light. Great to illuminate a small 100 sq ft room all night so you can navigate day and night. I was really excited for this mode, but at half light (even at 15 days), the light is fairly useless, and i used a mirror wall to boost it's light output. So there you have it. A great light with misleading runtime numbers. Yes TECHNICALLY they are not lying. You will get those hours listed, but the way it's marketed, you would assume the lumens will also be similar till the end up the runtime and that is clearly not the case. CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a good 48 Hour light that provides great usable light output for 48 hours (on medium setting), then this light is for you. That is fine for most regular blackouts. However you shouldn't do any blackout planning thinking this light will last you 4 days. You are better off just having a bunch of D batteries to swap out after 48 Hours to reach 4 to 5 days. I would recommend this light, but it's not worth the marketing hype and this can be dangerous for families doing emergency planning trusting the runtime numbers on the box.
