Long set up time

I got this kit as I like to make handmade books and would love to make marbled end papers for them. National Geographic is great for making kits for kids. The documents included are very informative and better yet educational. This is a good kit but I haven't had time to make any yet. The reason being is that you have to add thickener to your tray of water and then wait 6 hours! What kid is going to wait 6 hours before they can get into playing with paint and creating? I even can't find the time to set it up and come back in 6 hours. For this reason alone I dropped one star and had I known about this I probably wouldn't have ordered it.

Fun craft kit

As with any NatGeo kit, it's well thought out and has everything you need to do the activity. This Paint Marbling Arts & Crafts Kit requires planning though. The water thickener needs to be mixed and then it has to sit for 6 hours. Mix the thickener up in the tray, wait, then get started by adding some paint. You also need to have paper towels or something nearby to put the pictures on afterwards to dry. It was fun to do this craft. We haven't been disappointed yet with any of the NatGeo kits.

Not for the impatient but worth the wait

This is a great craft set. These types of marbleized paintings are really big right now and I'm glad to have an easy way to introduce my children to this art form. The set comes with everything you need to get started including a paint tray and nice, thick paper. The paper is really good quality, almost fabric-like, and stands up well to the large amounts of paint they will take on. My only complaint is the wait time. I didn't realize right away that you have to wait SIX hours after pouring the paint before you can apply it to the paper. Please make sure you are aware of that or you will have a very disappointed little artist on your hands if working with a child. I also think the set could come with more paint as the containers are quite small.

Fun for a weekend project

If you have your own canvasses this would be much more fun since they would be a lot more durable than the paper they include in this, but for the price I didn’t expect super thick paper or anything close to a canvas. It does take a long time to dry so patience is a must for this!

Good but not Amazing.

I expected better from a Brand like National Geographic. I have similar sets that came with actual canvasses so I was a little disappointed. The tray is nice and thick but the paper canvases are disappointing. I suppose for children this is fine. It comes with a little thickening powder but it doesn't come with a lot of paint. And I'm disappointed that the colors are so basic. Over all it's a decent set for kids but not the best one out there for the price.

Loads of fun

We've been enjoying this kit with the kids. It's super easy to use and get awesome results. The only downside is planning ahead because the solution needs to sit for 6 hours before you can start creating. Everything was intact upon arrival except the red didn't have the dropper tip on it. We made the best of it anyway and as you can see, still had fun. If you enjoy playing with paint, you'll have fun with this.

Shockingly this is actually worth the six hour wait time

I chose this for my 7 year old’s birthday--he’s crafty and it seemed like something fun to do together. My main complaint about this is prominently listed on the box--the activity takes more than six hours! As in, you have to mix in the powder and then wait six hours to do the activity. We have pulled this out twice and both times I’ve mentally done the math and decided that six hours from now is not a convenient time. I was going to mix up everything today after school but then it says not to let it sit for more than 24 hours so basically we need to mix it up in the morning before school and then do it after school…Now + 6 hours is a difficult time frame for a 7 year old. Perhaps older children who could do this completely independently would not be as hampered. We have now successfully done this activity (mixed in the powder before school and did the painting after school) and it had to be pretty stellar to overcome my general feelings towards it yesterday and it was. It worked perfectly, we did four sheets and all of them look amazing even though my 7 year old made some very bold color choices. Worth the six hour wait.

Interesting

I did not like the fact that after you put the mixture in the water you have to wait 6 hours to actually put color in. Even after waiting all that time some of the colors just sunk down to the bottom and didn't spread out. I got some really cool results but the goo that's left on the top of the paper takes a long time to dry.
