I have had many pairs of these and decided to add the blue lens to my collection. They are great. I spend a lot of time on the water as a captain and these glasses are the best in my opinion. Lightweight, clear/crisp and polarizing. The READERS allow you to use your Health Saving Account $$, so why not get these with after-tax money???

Not good with astigmatism

I bought these because the magnification area was small enough that it wasn't distracting - that was good. But I have a slight astigmatism in one eye and these made me feel almost cross-eyed. Wearing them for 20 minutes gave me a headache. I had to return them.

Ho'okipa is a polarized sunglass built for an active sport lifestyle.

These are my fifth pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, and I continue to consider Maui Jims the best all-around sunglasses available. In response to a few criticisms about the size of the magnification area, I point out that the Ho'oikipa frames are designed for outdoor wear and outdoor sports. I plan to wear them to sit by the pool and read too, but that is not what they are designed for. I have used the Ho'oikipa bronze HCL regular glasses for bicycling, and found them to be very good for that purpose. In the Reader version, they would help with reading my Garmin 810 GPS computer, or any other electronic screen displaying a map or small text. Living near the beach, there is plenty of bright sunshine. I have worn Maui Jim Bronze HCL sunglasses around town, at the beach, and on a boat. In the car, the magnification on the Readers was perfect for reading the small text on the steering wheel buttons, while not distorting my view of the instrument panel or the road ahead. If you are looking for sunglasses to wear by the pool while you read, be aware that the magnified portion is smaller than you might like. But for those of us who want an excellent pair of sunglasses for an active lifestyle, plus the ability to read small print without switching glasses, the Maui Jim Readers are close to perfect.

Incredible quality and comfort

1. Fit is perfect AND totally comfortable. 2. These are the only readers that do not bother me with lousy reader lens placement. I have to look down to read - just how I like it. 3. They are fantastic in the sun. No glare and great filter. I use them on dive boats in the Caribbean sun. Could not survive without them! 4. I will buy a second pair as a backup.

Excellent glasses but reading lens too low.

Like all Maui Jims, these fit well, look great, filter visible and UV light very efficiently, and cost more than you probably want to pay. I bought this pair for a recent trip to Iceland, and wore them on a snowmobile expedition on Myrdalsjokull Glacier on a bright, sunny day. Everyone wore sunglasses or goggles of some type -- and everyone else complained of the blinding sunlight or brilliant snow/ice reflection (or both), but I did not. They were great for automobile driving as well. My one complaint is with the reading lenses, which are placed too low for reading. That is, in order to use them to read, you have to cock your neck at an impossibly high (and uncomfortable) angle, or physically lift the glasses off of your nose and hold them up with one hand. I understand (I think) why they were designed this way, since I have other bifocal sunglasses on which the reading lenses are too large, or too high, and they interfere with normal (distant) vision, which is annoying. I'm sure that the Maui Jim people deliberately placed the lenses low to keep them out of the way, since sunglasses are used for reading only a fraction of the time. Still, I wish that those lenses were slightly higher or larger -- but it's not an important complaint, and certainly not worth subtracting a star. If it weren't for the extortionate price tag, Maui Jims would be, in general, the perfect sunglasses.

Nothing beats Maui Jim

These glasses are giving me the clearest picture I've had in years -- and I also wear Maui Jim Sandy Beach in Maui Rose. My eyes were lasiked in monovision, so it's imperative that I get the best vision I can. Over the years, since my lasik, my eyes have "improved," which means I now need a little correction for close work and reading. Sometimes I wear contact lenses, but I also wanted a good bifocal sun reader and these Maui Jims seem to be fitting the bill. Other reviewers noted the small bifocal part, and this is true, tho I've tested them outdoors with my Kindle and they seem to be OK. The most impressive facet of these items is the HT lens; it's truly fabulous. This style -- Ho'okipa -- is a tad larger than my Sandy Beach, so it's taking a little getting used to, but the pluses so outweigh the minuses that they're fast becoming a favorite. Did I mention that I'm also wearing my original Sandy Beach glasses for at least 5 years -- and that, although there are some tiny scratches, they hardly show any wear. I keep them in a soft case in my purse, and when I lost a nose piece, a quick call to Maui Jim was all that was needed to get a free replacement. I'm hooked on this brand for life!

Great sunglasses with readers built in

They are expensive, but worth the money if you are looking to invest in a very good pair of sunglasses with readers. I primarily use them for golfing. The bifocal does not impact my game. The readers allow me to look at the score card, gps, etc.

J'ai choisi cette paire de lunette pour pouvoir lire correctement mes instruments en conduisant voitures et motos. Excellente protection et vision de près. Je recommande ce produit malgré un prix élevé. Petit bémol justement à propos du prix, il pourrait au moins y avoir une chiffonnette pour essuyer les lunettes à un tel tarif.
