Jackprot!
I bought this hotrod to make Chicago style deep dish pizzas, and it's perfect! Now that that's out of the way, let me tell you that you can go ahead and ignore all the bad reviews about this skillet. These people clearly don't understand that if you leave cast iron wet, it will rust. That's what iron is supposed to do... If you wash it with water, dry IMMEDIATELY. Not 5 minutes after washing, IMMEDIATELY. Do that, and keep it seasoned, and it will not rust. Ever. It's also a good idea to season the pan a couple times before you first use it for cooking. Yes, it comes totally pre-seasoned, but it never hurts to make sure the pan is 100% sealed with seasoning. (the best way to prevent rust, by the way...) I love this skillet so much, I went ahead and bought the 11" square griddle from Lodge, and plan on getting the 10.25 and 8" skillet, as well. Then, all my cookware will be cast iron or stainless steel.

Perfect
This my 4th Lodge cast iron skillet. Each one is a different size. I use them constantly on my gas stove. They are easy to clean and hold heat very well. Great addition to my cookware, which is mostly LeCreuset.

Lodge is the best
This is the first cast iron skillet I’ve ever owned. I’m impressed with it. The one i bought was a little too big for most of my needs but is great when I need to cook a large amount of food. I’m planning to buy the next size down soon so its a better fit for day to day uses. Lodge has been around this long because they make superior products and they are made in the USA which makes me happy. It’s not from China which is why it is so durable. Just use proper care and it wi'll last for generations.

Season
Seasoning this pan takes a long time. I stubbed with corse steel wool for 15 min constantly! Then greased placed in oven upside down temp 500 did this for 6 hours. Then I fried a pound of bacon results bacon stuck. So now I will redo the process over again. Ugh I should build a fire pit and throw pan into it. Still einer cold here so I’ll just go back and redo what I did in the beginning as stated above. The sticky ng of bacon in pan was a area 4x4 inches. I love the pan though! Trial and error as they say and it’s worth the money.

No shortage of iron or weigh. Pebbly surface. Greater Goods skillet is better!
Its certainly no Griswold! You can get a much better pan for about the same money, search for “Greater Goods”. It’s lighter by about a pound and has a ground smooth cooking surface. Also has longer and cooler handle with spoon rest. Plus they give you a silicone handle cover to boot.

Best Bang for Buck Cast Iron
First, there are cheaper cast iron pans available but none match the performance of the Lodge brand. We upgraded from an Ozark Trails pan, and instantly regretted not starting with the Lodge. The Lodge comes with a much better pre-seasoned and sanded cooking surface. We have since bought several more Lodge Products.

Excellent for searing on an electric range
If you have an electric oven/range made in the last 10 years or so, you know the frustrating "safety" feature that turns the burner units on and off constantly. It's almost impossible to properly sear a piece of meat because it's impossible to keep a pan hot enough. A heavy cast iron pan doesn't fully solve the problem, but it helps. Give a cast iron pan a good long time to fully heat up before adding meat. (I usually give it at least 10 to 15 minutes.) When the electric range goes into its "on and off" antics, the cast iron pan will retain its heat and it's possible to sear meat quickly (without cooking it all the way through). The Lodge pan does the trick. It sits perfectly flat on a burner, unlike most thinner pans. It heats evenly and once it's fully seasoned, it cleans easily too. My only gripe (and the reason it's not 5 stars) is that the handle is too short to lift the pan easily one-handed. Other than that, it's excellent.

Why didn't I buy this sooner?
I love iron skillets. Once seasoned properly, they are great to cook with and easy to clean. I have owned a 9 inch cast iron skillet for decades but had been using a cheaper 12 inch steel pan when I needed something bigger. I finally bought this 12 inch cast iron skillet and it cooks SO much better than the steel pan. I like the sillicone handle cover. It is pretty heavy, which could be a problem for anyone who has serious hand or wrist problems. Otherwise, it's a fantastic skillet that will probably outlive most of us cooks!

Expensive but well finished product.
Expensive, but a beautifully finished product. Shipping costs are exhorbitant. Heavier than expected, pre-seasoned, effort required to clean. Belied the negative reports by some users; glad to have received a good piece. Silicone handle is somewhat loose.

The pan to rule them all
One pan to rule them all. It's heavy and solid and pretty much indestructible. Maybe the fire of Mount Doom? But then again it would be quite heavy for a hobbit to carry it all the way. Joke aside, I love this pan. Cast iron is not a perfect heat conductor so it may take a while to get up to your desired cooking temperature but its heat inertia is massive once hot so throwing in chunky steaks won't drop the temperature much. Same for casseroles, omelettes or pizzas. Or cornbread. There are not all that many things this pan won't adeptly handle on the stovetop or inside the oven or maybe outside on you BBQ grill. And if you feel like carrying it with on camping trips, it's equally competent over campfires. The pan was decent out of the box but I did more seasoning on my own before starting cooking in it. Some people would say it's just as good as a non stick pan. It's not. It may be close on some jobs but this is not the pan for delicate fish for instance, This matter aside I believe every household should have one of these pans. They are awesome. Edit: Taking back one star for the somewhat fussy way one needs to clean/ maintain it to avoid to re-season it. All it took was a night in the kitchen sink with water on it. Yes, it’s a big no-no and no, I wasn’t the one who left it there. I cleaned the rust and re seasoned it but on the first supsequent cook the seasoning started flaking so I needed to start back from scratch. It is back up in use now making reliable fritattas, tarte tatins and so on, but I can’t help thinking that an enameled version of it would see more use around the kitchen and be easier to care for at the same time. I’m saving up for a Le Creuset.

Good product
I quite like it. Maintenance is not very hard if you make sure there is not water after washing. Size is perfect if you want to make a little more quantity or stuffed indian curry. I only wish it had a very slight dip towards the center. when you pore the oil it goes off to the sides. But i can live with this as all the other things are positive

One of the best pans you'll ever own.
It's very well made and will last longer than you if taken care of. This pan can do it all from eggs and bacon to brownies and homemade pizza. Washing it is simple and easy. Just look up how to take care of cast iron. highly recommended purchase to anyone who cooks.
