Very fun!
The directions are a bit confusing in parts, and they never actually specify where to put the decals. You can, obviously, just put them anywhere you want. But, the sticker sheet labels the parts, so it seems like they have destinies to be fulfilled. We mostly went by the photos on the box for their placement. The finished park is fun, especially the push-button automation. The instruction book also includes ideas for building other creations with the parts in the kit -- my kids liked the robot best. These Gears! do deteriorate after a few years (the square bottom connectors are usually what snaps) so be sure to check them out and supervise young kids if these are being passed down generations or after a long gap in time between siblings, friends, etc.

Fun but with valid complaints
I read all the reviews before I purchased this for my 5 year old so I'll try to address the complaints of the other reviewers. First of all my husband could not believe the box said the toy was for 4+ kids. I think it would take at least a 10 year old to be able to assemble the toy by themselves. And only a 10 year old that was good at Legos or following Ikea assembly instructions would be able to put the toy together. So parent participation is definitely required when assembling the toy. Now that said, it was easy enough for my 5 year old to put the pieces together if I gave him the piece he needed and told him where it went. Overall, assembly was easy fairly easy, again you have to be familiar with following Lego or Ikea instructions and if you aren't then I would say assembly of the toy would be a bit more difficult for you. Now the complaint about the carousel falling off is valid. But it only happened when my son would run the gears nonstop. If you pulse the gears and let it run for only a few seconds at a time then the carousel was fine. But try telling a toddler to "pulse" the gears right?! The roller coaster is also a disappointment because the coaster tumbles down the track rather than sliding down the track as if it doesn't fit on the track. But in the end, after it was all assembled and my 5 year old had played with it for a bit, he said "this is so cool". Hence the high rating. Would I recommend the toy to others? It depends on the aptitude of the person I'm recommending it to. If it's a parent that is willing to sit and play with their child for at least an hour then I would recommend this toy, but if it's a parent that doesn't have that kind of time to play with their kids then they will only find this toy an aggravation.

Gears Dizzy Funland
We first bought the 'Gears Lights and Action" for my 3 yr old son and he would not leave his room, except to eat and go potty, for at least 2 weeks! After a month of building everything imaginable (cars, tractors, towers ect.) we felt that he could use another set because the connectors were limited. The first set was made in china, but the Dizzy Fun Land was made in Korea. They should be the same but they are a different plastic. They fit together but not exact. The set made in Korea doesn't stay together like the first set and the Ferris Wheel pops off after a couple of turns. My son still loves this set but gets more frustrated when it doesn't work properly. It doesn't come with all the pieces that the picture shows on the box and they are different color than the picture which is really annoying to my 3yr. old who likes to follow every instruction piece by piece. Overall, Gears are his ultimate favorite toy (over Mega Blocks and Hot Wheels and even watching TV) in fact it is a challenge to get him to do anything else.

Could use better instructions
Even though the age range for this set is older, my 4-year-old grandson loves it. I do have to help him a bit to follow the instructions (and, quite frankly, they are not that easy for me to follow). As with the other Gears! Gears! Gears! sets that we have, there is a motorized controller to spin the wheels. My only complaint, and the reason for only 4 stars, is the instruction booklet. It is very difficult to discern where some of the base pieces are supposed to fit together, and we have yet to get it completely put together. It would be very helpful if the instructions showed a top-down view for fitting the bases together.

Parental Assistance Not Optional
My 5-year-old son adores putting things together and taking them apart again. He's certainly more gifted in the latter skill, and I have the inoperable alarm clocks, dismantled scooter and non-working bicycle to prove it. That said, I gave him this set for Christmas to foster his love of mechanical exploration. When I did, I had no idea that I'd be making a committment to playing with him every single time (Every. Single. Time.) he brought this set out. There are too many pieces for children to sort before assembling -- so many, in fact, that younger kids may be overwhelmed and give up (and so might their parents). Assembling the pieces is not easy for small hands, which means a parent must help with that, too. In addition, putting the pieces together so they resemble the picture is a major task which means... yep, you guessed it: the parent is doing that as well. Ultimately, to play with this toy a child must find a parent willing to spend 15-20 minutes assembling it while simultaneously trying to keep the child from wandering off to a more accessible, engaging toy in the meantime. Assuming you've got the patience, skills and time for that, your kid might enjoy playing with it once it's all ready to go. Of course, you'd better not stray too far because you'll have to put this thing back together over and over again when the pieces fall apart. Frankly, my son got tired of it before I did and went off to figure out how to take apart the PS/2 console. Now the only one in the family interested in playing with it is our cat, and even he doesn't seem to be having much fun.

Great STEM toy but needs adult to help, motor not so strong
Bought this as a STEM educational gift for kids between 5-7. The battery motor is not as strong as we want it to be. It only moves about two things like the ferris wheel and something else. If you add another like the bumper car or another, the motor makes an odd sound and you have to stop pushing the button. The green base at the bottom is hard to put together for a child, as is the red slide.

Unfortunately disappointing.
Received item on time, but thoroughly disappointed with the quality. For the money I would expect something that works properly at least. I would like the seller to contact me please. My husband & I have both tried a few times to put this together, but either the pieces are wrong or it’s unfortunately just a bad product. Very disappointing as it looks like a good toy.

Disappointed
The motor was broken, we couldn't put it all together as parts seemed to be missing. It was returned no problem there, and even though we had problems, my daughter is insisting we buy another. so touch wood the next one will be ok.
