Hmm..not sure if it’s doing anything
Not sure if it’s doing much. I will say that the flow of the water from my HoB filter hasn’t been decreased, but I’m not entirely sure anything is happening with this. I accidentally bought it thinking it was ceramic rings for bio media. :/

Exactly What I Was Looking For!!!
We inherited a small ornamental pond when we bought our new house. Unfortunately, the power was disconnected before we took possession and the fish in the pond died. We were rather disheartened and got busy with moving in and unpacking. By the time we got around to messing with the pond, it was winter and extremely funky. I wanted a fresh start with Spring, so I completely emptied and cleaned it and the pump really well with bleach water. Of course, we never had a pond before, so knew nothing of opening or maintaining. Inside the pump, there were these ceramic bead like things. Several of them were cracked in half or in several pieces. After a lot of research, I finally figured out what they were and what their purpose was. And realized soaking them in bleach water was a big no no. These Fluval bio-media are almost identical to the original ones in our pump. The only difference I can tell are those were rounded and these are slightly squared off. They work and appear to do a great job in filtering the pond along with the additional layers of media. Very pleased with the product and felt the price was very reasonable!

Save your pads
They call this pre-filter media for a reason! It can be a life saver for your filter sponge and pads. Basically these just serve as an easy to clean barrier to large particles of debris. Unlike filter pads, these can be re-washed forever without falling apart on you and they'll really help to keep your finer media free from getting clogged. These are a one time purchase, you shouldn't need to ever replace them. I have a heavily planted tank, so I have no need for chemical (carbon) or bio filtration (ceramic rings/bio balls) in my tanks. All I need is mechanical filtration to keep the water nice and clear. So because of that, my canister has a large amount of room for media. I use the AquaTop CF-400UV canister filter, you do not need to use a Fluval canister to use this product. It comes loose in a plastic bag so you can put it in any media basket in any canister. In my canister I use this in the first basket. In the second I have a sponge and two finer pads. In the third and last basket is one more fine pad and a bag of ceramic bio rings. No, I don't need the ceramic rings, but with all the available space it's a perfect place to keep emergency filter media for use in quarantine/hospital tanks. If you have the space, these are a good idea to have.

Ok for a raw pre filter stage
Seem a bit too smooth, but does mechanically trap as it should. Rinses off easily if reuse is desired. Good Luck
