Max Security For Cheap, But Use Longer Screws

This is an extremely well designed product with solid build quality that works better than advertised and is (generally) easy to install. This same product is sold in various sizes under various brand names on Amazon. All appear to be from the same factory, with just differing packaging and prices. I actually ordered three sizes (3", 4" and 8") with this being the smallest/3" size, as shown in my attached photos. The 3" size is the easiest to grab and operate, but only by a small margin over the 4" size. The 8" size is huge, more appropriate for commercial applications than residential. My favorite for residential applications is the 4" size, which is the size I'll be ordering more of. This installs easily, but be aware: -- The included screws are about 1" long, which is sufficient to only secure the latch to the relatively thin and fragile door jam. I strongly suggest using at least 2 longer screws (I used 3" screws) to secure the latch into the framing studs located just behind the door jam. Installation on the door into my workshop and showing both the jam and the studs behind the jam is shown in my 2'nd photo. -- Your door must open inward to be able to mount this security latch. Most exterior doors open inward, but I have a strange door where I wanted to mount this that opens outward and it just won't fit there. The Amazon listing mentions this, but I missed it before ordering. -- If your door fits tight against the jam on the latch side then this may not fit in the available space, requiring some chisel work to gouge out a pocket for this latch to sit in on the jam. -- A screw driver is necessary to do this install, with a power screwdriver making short work of it. If you have access to a drill I strongly urge drilling pilot holes for the screws to prevent splitting of the jam.

Works as Intended but Slippery to Operate

This review is for DUOSI Childproof Door Reinforcement Lock,Home Security Door Lock with with 8 Screws, 3 Inch Stop Withstand 800 lbs for Inward Swinging Door, Upgrade Night Lock to Defend Your Home (Silver). We already have a similar lock for my front door and side door and I thought we could use another one of this kind because I really love these locks. However, while still functional and quite similar, this particular one is harder to pull to lock and unlock because of the smooth top and bottom. We really had to squeeze hard to get a good grip in order to move the latch. The ones we had previously installed have circular indents on the top and bottom which makes the lock much much easier to pull (see pix). It takes some effort to pull the latch sideways to operate it and having the indents on the top and bottom really helps. We found it harder to operate this latch because of the lack of those crucial indentations. My fingers would slip often trying to pull the latch even during my trial runs. Maybe my fingers are too dry and I just don’t have great finger strength. Yes, we could push it from the back instead of gripping where we are supposed to grip the lock, but why should we have to resort to that when there are better options? Other than that, it was very easy to install and came with the necessary screws and instructions. Overall, I would recommend looking for a similar lock with an indented top and bottom if you have weak fingers, otherwise it is OK and works as intended. It’s just too slippery without some kind of grip for us so I would give it 4.4/5.0 - 01/16/2023.

Very secure modern looking alternative to traditional security latches

Secure your door by really locking it down with this! This internal lock/latch is very sturdy! To use, slide the lock to the side, then the latch swings open so that the door may be opened. To lock it up, flip it back over and it slides back into place. It comes with the screws needed to install this into your door frame. The finish is modern, matte black metal, so it blends nicely with newer style door locks. I definitely like having this as an added security feature. You can choose to use this to secure your entry doors at night. After ordering a similar one and seeing how it works in real life, I decided to immediately order this one, for our other backdoor - see how much better it looks than the old latch that still needs to be removed… haha This thing is made of solid strong metal, it’s not going anywhere, if installed properly.

This will bar your door

I moved into an old house that has old doors. I replaced the locks and removed the chains but wanted one more layer at night. This certainly keeps the door from opening! It even takes me a minute to remember how to open it from the inside. I’m not putting it on every door for fear of fire hazard until I get used to it. I like that it came with multiple screw lengths, I was able to use the longer ones for even greater security.

Good product especially if you don’t have to chisel the wood

I’ve had this product on my prior home, recommended by law enforcement, and it is an additional layer of protection against door kick ins. However, I tried to install this product and I’m going to need to chisel out a part of the door frame to get it to fit. I thought it would work without needing to chisel out the frame as I was able to hold the lock in place in the open position and was able to open and close the door (albeit it was a tight fit). But after marking the holes and drilling this in place the door would catch on the lock. I will have to buy the appropriate chisels to do this correctly and try again. I gave this door lock 4 stars because I can see that it is made well and based on my prior use. I took one star off probably because I’m frustrated that I wasn’t able to just install it with less work on my end due to how my door fits (probably shouldn’t be a reflection to this product but since I wasn’t able to fully install it yet I’m sticking to my four stars).
