Solved My Problem :)
I had a real wing-ding problem with my tub spout. The original plumbing, from when the house was built, had a much too short copper pipe with a nasty bend in it - the plumber that did that should have been FIRED on the spot. Terrible, terrible workmanship. Anyhow, ...........the solution for my situation since I did not want to rip-out my fiberglass tub/shower and go into the wall nor risk soldering so close to the fiberglass thus damaging it, I opted to buy the Delta Faucet RP17453 tub spout and use this adapter PLUS a shark-bite adapter for a No Solder attachment. It worked perfectly. I am sooooo happy with the results. The spout and the Delta adapter are functioning as expected. And, I even called Delta to ask questions about their products - the customer service was outstanding.

additional applications
this can be threaded onto a cpvc adapter so you can use a delta tub spout even if your plumbing is cpvc. delta says the stub out for the tub spout has to be 1/2 inch copper or threaded iron pipe, not true.

Great product
This produce is a great way to adapt your Delta tub spout to threaded brass pipe as opposed to slipping over copper pipe. Using this adapter will make for a strong tub spout for a lifetime of good performance. Works well for those whom dislike sweating copper.

extra unnecessary expense
I bought this with a Delta Faucet thinking that this part was not included. the descriptions on the faucet never mentioned this part, I'm not sure who to blame for that. Now I have an extra adapter. I gave it a four star because of the additional $8 I had to spend on it for nothing.

This is the right part for an CTS to IPS hack!
Delta will tell you this can't be used in a faucet designed for CTS connections. Their reps on the phone say it's the wrong size. Delta is wrong. This is the part you want!

Perfect
My tub assembly came with the adapter that needed to be sweated on. It's not something I wanted to do, so I bought this. It works perfect. The threads on the inside of the adapter fit 1/2 threaded pipe BTW.

The valve kit should include THIS part
My Delta shower kit contained a very similar looking part, but this is what I needed for a threaded 1/2" stub that I used in conjunction with a 1/2" threaded drop ear.
