Better than the DW5600 but not the best G-Shock

I really get the love behind this model now after trying it out for a few days, but sadly cannot say I can raise this up to one of my favorites. The darn triple eye graph setup is too impractical to make sense to me, along with the prominent light button lip. Okay I could have lived with the triple graph too as some design non-sense, but the light button and lip just plain block the vision of the screen until it is near perfectly parallel to eyes. Using the DW6900 accordingly requires you to fully square up the watch and your arm to meet your eyes rather than being able to get a quick read from various angles as you can on most other G-Shocks. I get now that despite the impracticalities, why this is the chosen model for military. It’s cheap, useable, and tough. It is far from a winner for practical design, and that’s why more elite units will get the Garmins. It is better than the DW5600 simply because the predecessor, while even more practical from a visual standpoint, is completely handicapped by the recessed adjust button which makes it unusable for quick adjustments and resets to the timer and alarm. Despite the improvement in the tactile usability, it’s a step backwards in visual functionality. The fact is, the triple graph takes up way too much space than it should. If you look instead at a GWM500/530, the overall dial diameter is much smaller, yet the numbers are not only bigger but much more readable from multiple angles. That is because while it also has a triple graph, they are really tiny. And because they aren’t there to give you time critical information, it can be afforded to minimize them and push them far up so that when you do have time you can get a closer look. Instead the actual time you need is prioritized. You also don’t have a silly lip blocking your view. The DW6900 thus prioritizes design for looks than for function. The solar and MB6 of this GW6900 make a more compelling argument for value but then you lose the absolute cheapness in price of the DW6900. Disregarding all of the above, I really do like the shape and iconography of this GW6900 model. I think it really does look super cool. At the end though, I can’t get over the impracticality of these design hindrances to want to own it over my other far more practical options like the GD350. Okay if they flushed down the light button lip to match the rest of the rim around the dial I could accept the triple graph size, so there is potential if Casio would move on from the nostalgia. And nostalgia is what causes its predecessor, the DW5600, to similarly be handicapped.

Saved me from a life of embarrassment

I use to wear a watch I received from a relative it was an old mechanical watch with Roman numerals and such, it looked nice but I couldn't tell time worth a damn. When people would ask for the time id pull out my phone to tell the time and they'd say, "why not just check your watch", to which I would just smile and say 'guess I just forgot'. But with this watch the time is digital! Can you believe it?! I'm not afraid no more, I can read out the time from my watch when asked, with confidence and cunning. This watch saved me from ridicule of not knowing how to read a traditional clock. My kids respect me now. Everything about this watch is stylish, I feel young again, I'm filled with vigor and youth! Unfortunately the instructions on how to set up this watch are to complicated and I can't figure it out so it is stuck on the time for Tokyo, but I live in America. When people ask me what time it is I tell them the time that it is in Tokyo, laugh, and walk away. Thank you watch.

Great Work Watch

This watch may arguably be the current apex of field watches. My only regret is not knowing about it much sooner. Not all G-Shocks are created equal. Some are big and bulky, some are a bit slimmer. This model is a good "Goldilocks zone" of the 2 design philosophies. It's a little bit bulkier than the squares or the Casioak, but not so bulky that it doesn't look nice on the wrist and it is very comfortable. It is not nearly as bulky as something like a mudmaster. The Multiband 6 may be my favorite feature and it works. There are nights where it doesn't receive a signal, this may happen once a month or two. Still, the quartz is super accurate compared to a mechanical and they (I have multiple Multi 6 watches) seem to receive the signal afterwards. But it does work waaaaay more often than not which helps make this the ultimate set and forget. The solar power also works. It was on a mid charge when I got it and it's been on high ever since. Don't need to worry about batteries for at least 10-12 years. Nice. I also really like the world time. It's great for travel or deployments. You can use it to keep track of Z time or you can set it to your home time so you know what time it is at home! The Multiband 6 works with every atomic tower in the world which also makes this a great travel watch. I also like that they moved a lot of the indicators off of the main screen. It keeps the clutter down and helps make what you're trying to find that much easier at a glance. The interface is well organized and the buttons break-in and soften nicely. Auto power save, auto DST, 24 hr count down timer, stopwatch, EL Backlight, this watch has everything you need and nothing you don't. The only real concern is that it's slightly bulkier than the squares but it's hardly a fault. It's still comfy, rugged, and reliable. It's a no-brainer for military, first responders, or anyone who doesn't want to crack the face of their favorite smart watch while working a rugged job.
