Good product, but there are a few flies in the ointment
I bought this for my 90-year old father who refused to replace his favorite chair with one that lifts him. It works well as described. Just be aware that it's very tall, so before you buy it, imagine yourself sitting in the chosen chair with a 4" platform under your bottom. You lose your arm rests--they are blocked by the cushion. Your feet don't reach the ground. If your chair is a recliner and you're accustomed to leaning back and resting your head on the chair back, that's not going to happen--your head will stick up above the back of the chair because you're sitting 4" higher now. If you're willing to put up with those changes, you'll be pleased with this product. If, like my dad, you want everything to be exactly as it has always been, then you probably won't like it. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's exactly what they describe; but I'm just letting you know that there are a few flies in the ointment.

Avoid this product and this seller
Shipped in flimsy manufacturer box,box was torn open in 2 areas. Suspect seat fell out of flimsy box at some point in shipping as seat was bange d up. Lots of tape over large holes in box. Seat lift broke with first use. Seller demanded pictures, then said I couldn't return because it's a commode or toilet seat. It's not! Says "eligible for refund or replacement" on page,but won't offer anything. Look elsewhere,avoid AreaTrend. Major headache

I just love this as I'm physically challenged and can't rise from my office chair easily. I think I might even buy another one. It's very comfortable and just push the switch and you don't have to hold it down. The switch arm is moveable and is by the arm of my chair. I just return it back to level and it's ready to go again. I got the smallest one, I'm a size 14-16, and it fits perfectly. Buy this one! The motor is in the center of the cushion and feels hard and gives a low backache. So I strapped a dining room chair cushion on. I recommend you get a gel cushion and that should make it much more comfortable. I've used it daily for about 5 years and have had no problems with the motor, but a large or heavy person might have an issue with it. I turn chair sideways to back it up to a wall when going to stand up to stabilize it, and the left arm of my chair is against my desk so it won't swivel. I do the same to sit down. I can't sit or stand from anything that moves. Remember it's the back of seat that raises, so plant your feet tightly against the floor so you won't slide.

Has problems …
Cloth material covering gooseneck arrived frayed, detached. Switch was intermittent. Upon investigation discovered the switch had all cold solder connections. Repaired. Now working properly though still not very comfortable for old people with boney bums!

Able to get up now
I purchased this item for a client of mine who has trouble getting up out of her older furniture. She has not been able to sit and relax in her living room at night out of fear she wouldn’t be able to get up. Now that she has this she say she no longer has that fear, the only downside is that she says she can’t sit there for long because it becomes uncomfortable on her bottom. She also suggests that there be different sizes to better fit different chairs.

Don't buy this product it's uncomfortable and NOT RETURNABLE!!!
We bought this product for my 91 year old mother in law. She finds it extremely uncomfortable. The pictures and the video of this product indicate that the person sitting on the unit is closer to the chair. In reality it is very high to the point that my mother in law's feet were dangling in the air. The only way to fix this is to buy a lower chair. We discovered this in less than a minute of testing the unit. So I am trying to return it, and discovered the item is not returnable. Don't buy this substandard item that the manufacturer doesn't stand behind.

The box was old and raggedy????
When this was delivered the box was terrible. If I would have seen the delivery guy dropping this box off at my door, I would have demand that he return it. I went ahead and open the raggedy box and tried out the lift. So far it works but I will be back for another review after I use it. I have a hip replacement surgery in a couple of weeks and I will need this to help assist with me getting up. Stay tune for further reviews.

Looks like it would work, but in reality, not for frail elderly people
Bought this for my 101 y/o grandfather. He is rather weak, but still a large man. The concept looks like it would work, but we were not able to find a chair that this would work in that he felt safe using and that was comfortable. The seat itself isn't very comfortable for long sits, ie watching a movie. Once he was seated it was really hard for him to reposition himself because of the arms on the chairs. Armless chairs were dicey for sitting down because he can't turn his head to see where his butt is going and sometimes barely caught the seat. Wheeled office chairs were more comfortable because of the high back but would scoot out from under him. Non-wheeled chairs were to hard for him to move closer to the table after he was seated. We returned it and have contacted the DVA (Canadian) for help and they have an office chair with a built in lift system that might work. I think this chair would work for someone who still has good use of their arms and legs and a certain amount of strength but just can't lever themself to a standing position.

Defective - does not work
I received this today. It doesn't work - the lift mechanism is making a grinding noise and does not lift. Amazon says "this item is not eligible for return". I don't know why it can not be returned and I cannot find phone number to talk to Amazon or the sellers.

Seller does not warn buyers no returns when ordering
Really disappointed and upset. My daughter bought this for me but when we unpacked it and put it on my chair it’s too high, also would be uncomfortable for sitting. We repackaged it to return it only to find out it is not eligible for return. THIS FACT is not seen on the order page - they should warn people all sales final. Will not buy any health products on this site anymore. An expensive lesson learned.

Not a good purchase in my opinion
The seat is uncomfortable(too hard)so one cannot sit on it for any length of time unless one adds a cushion, which would fall when lift is used . Also I cannot use it with my Lazy Boy type recliner: once reclined with the foot lift up the device makes it impossible to put the chair back to it's original position thus one cannot get up without the help of another person. I find that I've wasted my money in purchasing this item.

Very uncomfortable!
Although advertised that the seat was made comfortable by memory foam, it is not. The seat is hard. It has a tendency to teeter and I found that it caused back ache. This is definitely not a replacement for a lift chair. Additionally, when I tried to return the seat, I found out that it was non-returnable. So now I’m out over $200 and am stuck with a useless lift seat.
