Still trying to make up my mind.
Let’s face it. It better be way above average to warrant this price right? You could buy several cheap models for one of these. But I’ve had this brand luggage for 30 years and more than 3 million actual air miles. I’m a fan. Mostly bc of their warranty, which I have used many times. Also the frame on the outside is a game changer for those who need to be a professional packer for work. Vaca only use? Maybe not necessary, so get something cheaper. I’ve been hanging on converting to one of these bc I’m not completely sold on the clam shell type style. Seems very inefficient and difficult to plan for large items. Also most models are slightly smaller than their prior zip version of the same size. Again if you’re not a road warrior, you won’t notice. But I caved, I loved the blush color. Lame I know. So, the good news, it’s more a one third/two third ratio clam, which helps for thicker items. It is smaller than its zip sibling. But I’ve “overstuffed” it twice, using the expansion feature and the rubber piping around one side of the clam is now like a stretched out Polo shirt. Yuk. It is easy to maneuver? Absolutely. Fits over head and under seat. So? If the frame outside and the warranty are selling points for you, go for it. Otherwise, save the money.

By far the BEST. Position of wheels is key!!
So I finally decided to splurge on a Briggs and Riley (that warramty), after tossing money at cheap luggage for 30 years...I originally bought the Baseline soft sided with the matching duffle; LOVED the color (olive and tan) and the duffel was SO spacious. BUT, I returned both after packing the carryon suitcase for a 3 week trip to Italy. Why? Because it tips over once packed. It's all about the wheel positioning....if you open the Baseline and lay it flat to pack you see it has all 4 wheels on one side of the bag. So once you close the 2 sides, the weight from the section without wheels causes it to tip forward. Doesnt matter if you pack the heavy items on the bottom...I tried four times! So I returned and reluctantly bought this hard sided version (I wanted soft sided as I own a set of cheaper Italian hard side luggage) because as you see, 2 wheels are in one side of the bag and 2 on the other, offering a perfect balance once packed. Oddly the back wheels are larger than the front, sont know why but doesnt affect the way it rolls or stands up. The compression function is amazing! I've been traveling 3 weeks now in Italy with this suitcase and a backpack (I'm 5w yrs young) and it has help up spectacularly on cobble stone streets and firs as a carryon in all planes so far. It's easy to lift into the trains with handles conveniently placed. the extender handle goes pretty high so tall people will love it; you can adjust it lower as well (which I do since I'm only 5'5"). The color is beautiful and I dont see one scratch on it. Having the telescoping handle on the outside also affords more room inside for packing. Another reason to buy this brand, the only other I know who does this is Louis Vuitton (and for a $3k piece of uggage, their warranty sucks.) I wish B&R comes out with companion pieces in this color and only regret not investing sooner in life Buy it you wont regret it. And if you do, you can return via Amazon.

No Nonsense well-built bag
B&R's reputation precedes them and this is in part why I bought the bag. I also purchased another less expensive but very highly rated bag. It was a hardside like this one But it opened in the middle which I am not used to and don't like. The B&R opens like a conventional suitcase which I like alot. The collapsable expansion feature is very cool. The exterior of the bag is very plain and unassuming; the interior has a classy, well-made, tasteful look and feel which I really like. One peculiar problem that I ran across is that the only way to unlock the bag when the zipper tabs are inserted into the TSA lock mechanism is to Press Down on the Zipper right where the tabs connect to the zipper And move the unlock button on the TSA lock. There is no mention of this in the literature/manual and I called B&R and they are unaware of this. It may just be my bag/an anomaly (although I saw a post where a guy couldn't open the bag and I'll bet it was because of this; I had to figure it out on my own). As long as you unlock it before TSA gets a hold of it AND use it as a carryon bag everything will be okay although I printed a small 'PRESS DOWN' label and used clear tape to put it on the plastic below the zipper where you need to press, just in case. It feels a little on the heavy side although probably only at most a lb. heavier than similar bags. Another thing is the zipper is not as smooth as another bag I have. Anyway this thing has a lifetime warranty and I am learning to love it (possibly related to reducing the cognitive dissonance that comes with spending this much money for a carryon).

It even replaces a fold-over type suitcase
I've always wanted a Briggs and Riley suitcase, but couldn't justify it. But our fold over for suits and nice dresses suitcase was crumbling; and we had a cruise coming up with a lot of confusion on the post-Covid logistics. We're not light packers so I thought "we really need a BIG BIG suitcase so we can get by with only two." But we've always taken one rolling fold over suitcase because my husband likes to wear suits and cruises often have formal nights. I decided to get the biggest Briggs and Riley because I saw a picture of a man's suit jacket being folded and put in one compartment. Guess what... IT WORKS. My husband wears a 46 extra long - and his jackets could be folded neatly, along with pants in the zippered lid compartment. I was really surprised and impressed. We've only gone on that one trip so far. But we had a lot of schlepping around getting to the plane, getting from the plane to the hotel, getting from the hotel to the pre-Covid testing site and then coming home with all of that in reverse and the suitcase was extremely easy to maneuver. And the handle is long enough my husband could put the flap of his pretty big carry on over the handle and still use the handle. He couldn't do that on our old suitcase. Of course the big thing about B&R is the warranty and this suitcase is too new to know how it will hold up. But so far we're very impressed.

Not perfect (sadly)
First business trip with this (quite expensive bag), and found a few gripes :- 1) The Outsider handle is not ‘outside’, there is still a big ridge in the inside, so it is not a flat surface as advertised. 2) The handle adjustment is annoying, and when using randomly lowers. 3) The battery pack thing sticks out, so when trying to stow the bag in overhead locker, the battery pack catches and means the weight of the pack is sitting on the battery pack (probably not good long term). 4) Although classed as carry on, I’m fairly sure I’m going to hit issues with certain airlines as it seems bigger than most - not a bad thing provided you don’t get caught on. 5) The spinner wheels that everyone seems to get excited about….not sure if I got different tyres on my bad boy, but my old cream crackered samsonite rolls better on rough surfaces, the Briggs is sure smooth on glass flat airport surfaces. Not all gripes though :- 1) Case material feels solid, not sure about the zip. 2) The expansion thing seems to work well, not tested ‘in the field though. 3) Materials of inner seem good quality. 4) The compression strap thing works well and secures your innards. So, to summarise, an expensive bag, maybe not worth the dollar unless you really want the brand image.

Beautiful suitcases
Bought this as a used, slightly damaged case. It arrived...via Canada post late, but the case never had a scratch on it. This is the second one I purchased from Amazon like this ( as used / damaged like new) and the first was the same..extremely discounted and flawlessly new.. awesome deal.
