Good product, just be careful with the felt pads.
This is a review for the Black & Decker SF100 Wood Stud Finder. First let me say - this is a very basic tool and definitely a top ten for the home handyman. It's a simple device, no extra bells or whistles - it simply detects something behind the wall. The only downside is the black felt pads on the back of the device are cheaply dyed and can leave faint marks on your white drywall. A simple solution is to lightly dampen them and blot them until they're mostly dry. Then let them rest on a few paper towels to air dry (felt pads facing down). That should help get some of the excess dye to drain down into the paper towels and not on your walls. For best results, don't use it until the pads are 100% dry. Other than the streaky black felt pads, this tool works very well. Use a little common sense when you're working with it and try to steer clear of wiring that may be detected (rarely) by accident. Make sure if you find a stud at 5', that you find that same stud at 4', 3' etc. It will help minimize false readings. Batteries are replaced at the bottom of the device (The black panel under the words "Stud Sensor"). On a personal note, although you may be tempted guys, don't turn it on in front of your wife and then point it at yourself while saying, "Hey look, it found a stud!" - you will only get a sad shaking of the head at best or at worst she may steal it from you and head for the bar. You have been warned. A final note - be aware the packaging for these is ridiculous - it's hard plastic that's been heat sealed and clamped all the way around except for the base, which is folded. To open, don't do what I did by trying to slit open the bottom to get an opening to tear the whole thing apart. My knife slipped (cutting away, like you should) and my finger dove straight down into the hard, freshly cut plastic...which proceeded to act like a really sharp knife and slice my finger open. Instead, be wise and take it out to your work bench, lay it flat on the table and cut the thing open - with safety scissors, preferably. Overall, the cut was a small price to pay for a great product. Be safe out there building a better you.

Not sure it knows what a stud is!?!
I held this up to myself for almost 10 minutes and it never said it found the stud!... haha, yea right, okay.. But in all reality, I used this to mount a flat screen mount on a wall, and out of the 4 screws I had marked using this stud finder, only the right 2 actually went into the studs. Now luckily I used pilot holes first and didn't just drill away thinking this was brass tax! But If I had, I would have had one very mad home owner for all the holes I just put in there wall! And luckily I'm not new at this! I Used this stud finder, and pilot holes, and then went about using my reliable stud finder. So I can't say much good about this one. To me it's just not that worth buying, I mean, It aint hard to find a good stud finder, that's cheap, and works, so maybe keep looking! But it looks cool!

Fairly accurate. Works as expected.
It does the job. I’ve used these before and this performs about average for the species. You just go over the area again until you confirm your hits on a stud. ????????‍♀️You can’t be in an all fired hurry!

Great Little Stud Finder
I have a manufactured home and wasn't sure if of the way the home was built, so I bought this stud finder to find out if the studs were wood and how they were spaced. I wasn't sure if I was going to get false readings because my walls are a thick wood paneling, but it gave correct readings and helped me find the studs. Too bad it can't be used to find other kinds of studs, the kind that take you out to dinner.

if you need to find a stud this is the way to do it..;)
I purchased this for my sister who had just purchased a home and was complaining that she could couldn't find any wood in the walls. At first she told me not to buy it she didn't need it. I knew that she had never seen one and when she got it, she tried tried and was OMG it actually works and has been thrilled ever since. I made sure that it was a quality brand that she would trust, thank you so much for the quality product and always your excellent service

Entry level stud finder
Studs can be somewhat problematic to find with this stud finder, and the black felt pads leave very light black streaks on my walls. I believe stuff that's buried in the walls throws the readings off too much. This would be great for entry level handypeople, but if you're willing to spend a little more money consider something a little more robust.

Not recommended....Really hard time with this, my boyfriend is the ...
Edited: I bought a painting yesterday and tried to use this again, well my husband did. Still doesn't detect, complete waste of money... Wish I had held onto packaging to return. Really disappointed. I threw away money, as this is going in the garbage. Really hard time with this, my boyfriend is the handy one really hard to find studs. Knocking on the wall to find wood beams works as well as this device. I'm quite surprised from Black n Decker, a company I otherwise respect.

It Works So-So
The device is easy to use but I wouldn't say it's accurate. I would suggest having a long thin nail to poke around before committing to drilling. Even after reading the instructions and doing the calibration, it only gave me the general location of the stud. It doesn't do so well when the drywall isn't at its best condition--leaving you with a wide area to find the middle of. It's best to throw in a few knocks and feel for the stud while using it. That or spend more to obtain a better stud finder. I wouldn't recommend this product to a friend nor would I buy it again. It did get the job done but it wouldn't be the only thing I could rely on.

Great, little tool
Great small stud finder. Works well, obviously not as well as the more expensive, bigger counterparts. But it is great for finding mounting studs, and for small repairs.

Finnicky and Frustrating
Inconsistent. Will light up from one direction 1 time in 2; never from the other side. Blips on and off for no reason. Would have me believe there are 8' gaps between studs. I've never been able to trust the results from this thing and always end up knocking and drilling pilot holes.

Works
You can feel how cheap this thing is just by holding it, but it's a stud finder so it's not like you're going to be physically exerting it. Has worked for me, even though the material that touches the wall gives me a nails-on-the-chalkboard kinds of feeling when rubbing it on the wall.
