Best thickness out of 5 tries

I got 5 white chinelle bedspreads from various stores. This was far and away the thickest cotton of all of them. You could still see through a bit, but it was nowhere as bad. I returned it and admitted defeat with chinelle this round so can't attest to more.

Reminds me of my childhood

I received my chenille bedspread today. It reminds me of all the nights I spent with my aunt and my grandmother, sleeping in big old creaky beds with crisp cotton sheets and soft, fluffy chenille spreads. I have a queen size captain's bed with an extra thick mattress and foundation. That means I never know if spreads and comforters will be big enough until I try them (I've learned not to completely trust measurements on packaging) but when I put the spread on the bed, it was perfect - it is plenty wide enough to reach floor if using a regular bedframe, with enough length at the top to cover the pillows with a little tuck under and enough length at the bottom end to match the length of the sides for a nice, neat look all around. The only negative I found was a very strong odor when the spread came fresh out of the plastic zipper bag - the usual smell of fabric processing and dying. A good wash (gentle cycle, cold water) took care of the smell. There does not appear to be any shrinkage from the wash and low tumble dry (tons of lint, which was to be expected with chenille). Overall, I am really looking forward to spending the summer under this lovely, lightweight reminder of my childhood. And in Florida, the lightweight part is key.

Well-made, no lose threads, perfect!

After reading the reviews I decided to go a size up to the King size, there is enough fabric to pull the spread over the pillows, rather than using shams. I don't know about you, but I love the look of the spread over the pillows (as in the old days) without shams. I have an 18th century mahogany four poster bed with a gorgeous head board....and now it shows really well without the shams. I washed (very gently) the spread, and dried it twice on low, cleaning the lint filter each time...then dried on normal/medium one time, and again cleaned the filter. There is no lint on the spread, and no lose threads either. I watched it going through the low spin cycle, then moved the spin cycle to medium, just for 3 minutes. It is gorgeous! I am so glad I got it. I also got the chenille spread in blue and the green in King size, as well, with no shams either. I really like the old look. I have to return the shams, although they are lovely also, and inexpensive! Just a hint, with the ivory spreads (being light weight) you can use any color underneath them, and a bit of color will show through giving you a whole new look. So for now, I used white sheets, and the ivory looks wonderful - have fun with them. What a find at such a reasonable cost!!

Nice summer chenille bedspread

If you like light weight Chenille bedspreads for the summer, and don't want to spend a fortune, this is a good choice. Holding up pretty well after repeated washings. Amply sized too. Yes, you have to get past the initial `shedding'.

Is chenille right for you? Let me help you out...

I love chenille bedspreads as they remind me of the one I used to sleep with at my grandma's place. Things you need to know about chenille bedspreads if you've never owned one: - They are large & made of cotton, so expect a lot of lint in the dryer. Some of this lint will remain on the blanket & come off on your clothing & possibly make you sneeze (did for me) for the next several washes. This is normal. My 20yr old Sears chenille bedspread still produces a significant amount of lint in the dryer. - They are made up of 2 things: a sturdier cotton sheet (to hold the stitching. You won't feel this layer on your skin because you'll have a bedsheet at minimum between) & stitched cotton tufts. For all of the complaints about how thin chenille bedspreads are... this is what a chenille bedspread is. You don't hold it up to see if you can see through it, because you will be able to given the nature of it, you put it on your bed as a decorative piece. There's really not a lot of weight or warmth... DECORATIVE! Like: - it's a quintessential chenille bedspread - lightweight, adds visual warmth (texture) & elegance with the raised pattern - not a bright, crisp white, but a warm, slightly off white (very slight, not a yellow tinge though) - oversized king is a decent width. It falls to ~8" above the floor & my bed skirt covers the rest of the gap to the floor (measure before buying! There are so many factors that make up various bed heights...) - plenty of length to tuck under pillows Dislike (lacking in quality): - the tufts of cotton that make up the pattern on this bedspread are not quality (larger pieces of thread than my last chenille bedspread) & are not holding up like they should. They are coming out already or one part of the loop is no longer in place & can be seen as a string underneath - the pattern is incomplete, meaning I can visually see where there are supposed to be tufts of cotton but instead there are gaps. In some places I can even see where the machine appears to have pierced the material, but no tuft was deposited. Just in passing by it looks fine & not noticeable, but I know it's there & shouldn't be for a brand new bedspread. Over many years, yes, the tufts will slowly come out here & there but nothing major like what I'm already seeing right out of the package. - I don't feel this chenille bedspread will last a long time because some of the tufts are already pulling out.
