Purr-fect playpen for when cats need a time-out, or just a place to hang out.
I love these. I have three of them. I purchased two last summer (2019) at regular price, and one this current winter (2020) from Amazon Warehouse. I have several of my own cats, and I foster cats, periodically. As all cat people know, not all of our beloved feline friends like each other as much as we would want for them to. Not all cats mix with each other well, or even want to try - especially strays or ferals. In the last few years, I have become accustomed to using crates due to fostering as well as having litters of kittens to care for when one of my girls got out of the yard for a hot date. As any experienced cat rescuer knows, pregnant cats are moody, and once the litter has been born - very protective of their young, and even of the place in which they have chosen to give birth. Cats are territorial by nature. Even cats that generally get on well with each other will have turf wars from time to time. Add a litter of new kittens into the mix, or a stray in need of assistance, and it could be a recipe for disaster (and a trip to both the Vet and ER), depending on the temperament of the cats. I have had to separate my cats at times, and in a small apartment, there's not always adequate room to do so. The solution is to kennel the cats, in increments of time, when one is not able to adequately supervise them and keep the peace. I do have smaller crates - 30", 36", and an XXL 48" crate that I purchased in 2017 for a pregnant foster because my male cat wasn't the father of her litter - and those are great, for short periods of time. However, they are not suitable if the duration of time is longer than two or three hours. Cats can't properly move around in those, and lethargy is just as bad for their muscles as it is for humans. Not being able to move around, or climb, is stressful for them also. Kenneling in general, if for extended periods of time, causes great anxiety and depression, and can directly cause gastrointestinal problems. Crating or kenneling cats should only ever be a temporary solution, and/or for short periods of time, (even if the need is daily while one is at work), if necessary. Despite how nice the crate is, a cat cannot live in one 24-7 and never get out. That being stated, these Amazon Cat Playpens are much more suitable if one needs to crate or kennel their furbabies for the duration of a shift at work, or overnight, and/or if fostering. There is adequate space in the Amazon Basics Cat Playpen for a standard sized litter box; and, three tiers means that the cats can climb - something that all cats love to do. I have added sisal scratch posts (attached to the back of the crates) and hammocks, in addition to cozy fleece blankets and self-warming pads, onto the shelves. Bowls and feeders that attach to the sides of any wire crate can easily be attached to the Amazon Basics playpen. I have several at each level for dry food and fresh water. I have also added feather toys and hanging scratch pads (the kind with catnip in them) to a few sides, to keep them entertained when they have to be kenneled. The shelves are a perfect size for a cat to relax and take a nap on. If one places two shelves directly opposite one another, at the same height, the space in the middle is slightly smaller than the shelf, so there is room for a cat to climb in between. These shelves are adjustable, which is great, because cats of different weights and ages need space adequate to their overall body size. I stagger the shelves so there's more room to climb. To give a better idea of space: two large cats (12lbs - 14lbs) can fit comfortably in the playpen at once. Three of that size will fit, but I wouldn't suggest kenneling three large cats at once, unless it was only for a very, very, short period of time. One large cat of 18lbs - 20lbs can fit by himself/herself. Three smaller cats (7lbs or less) can fit comfortably. Five kittens of six months of age, or younger, as well as Mama cat, can also easily fit into the playpen. The playpens are sturdy, but because my cats love to climb up and on top of them, I have reinforced the sides with cable ties. I have placed cat beds and pillows atop the crates so that my cats can rest up there also. The playpens have wheels, and are very easy to move around. The wheels also lock easily to keep the playpen stationary. The shelves are good quality and very easy to remove and clean. My cats LOVE these playpens, and go into of them of their own volition, several times daily, to rest, to play, to eat or drink (when they don't feel like sitting next to one another in the kitchen at dinnertime) and to use the litter box. (I keep one litter box in each crate, at all times.) There are two doors on the front of the playpen that can be opened up separately. Since it's only my cats and no fosters at the moment - I keep the bottom door open with a bungee cord, (and the top closed) so that my cats can go in and out as they please. I only shut and lock the door when I need to shampoo carpets, or clean, or move things around in the apartment, or occasionally, put someone in time-out because he or she isn't getting along with the others . As mentioned, my cats love these playpens. I would rate the Amazon Basics playpen five out of five stars. It's well constructed, sturdy, and easy to move around. It's easy to clean and to keep clean. It's also easy to accessorize with lots of fun cat toys, scratch poles, hammocks, etc, which all crazy cat people can understand and relate to. It is also priced well, and though much less expensive than other cat playpens on the market, is just as good, if not better than, they. If you are in need of a playpen for your cat(s) - for whatever reason - I highly recommend the Amazon Basics 3 Tier Cat Cage Playpen. It's purrfect.

I mean... It's okay...I suppose
I've got a tiny house with an unruly kitten, and my husband was about to go insane with kitty's antics, so I bought this cage to corral him (kitten, not my husband!). Saw good reviews for this one, so not knowing a thing about cat cages, I bought it. I've not had it for long, so I cannot speak to its longevity or durability, but it does seem to get the job done. Kitten loves it, husband's sanity has been restored, and since it's on wheels, Kitty can go out on the porch when the weather's nice and enjoy nature as I drink my tea and soak up the sunshine, too. However... If you're considering this cage, keep these things in mind: When the package comes to your door, it's gonna be heavy. (About 41 pounds or so). It's also in a huge, flat box that's hard to wrangle. A younger, able bodied person should have no problems, but I had to leave it on the porch until my husband got home from work to help. I know a lot of you are little ol' cat ladies like me, so it's worth mentioning. The instructions are horrid. Just throw them away and figure it all out yourself... you'll do a better job. I dunno what engineer got paid to slap that booklet together, but dude... maybe you should find another line of work. I don't know if there's a YouTube video out there you could watch, but it might be worth a try to find one. I wish I'd have thought to look.... Which leads me to my next point: You need two people to assemble this. However, once you get the process going, it simply folds out and takes shape rather easily. It just comes all stuck together and you need one stronger person to yank it apart, and another to help that person not get their fingers pinched. One more thing: it needs a ton of zip ties all around it to keep it together and secure. Kitty loves the zip ties, so it's all good, but we were fortunate to have a package already, or we would've had to go out and buy some, which would've been a nuisance. I think it would fit two adult cats easily (as long as they liked each other, of course), but it would not be a good long term solution... Just not enough space. But hey, it's good enough to be my kitty's patio and it keeps my husband happy, so win/win. One more thing I'd like to mention: This was an Amazon Basics product, and I have a conspiracy theory that they plant good, five star reviews for such things so you'll buy them. (Hey man, ol' Jeff really needs to line his pockets with more of your hard earned cash so he can take another joy ride to space!) All in all, four stars. Seems okay, gets the job done, and the price was reasonable. Hope this helps!

The Cats (Crib) Whiskers
Item purchased for new kitty in household. Household has another 2 cats. All kitties inquisitive on 3 storey cat cage and have since laid claim to accomplishing the heady heights of top tier bed. Item since furnished and 2 female cats enjoyed a good nights cat nap in same. Our male cat still to try out. Item is sturdy, easy to assemble and has features such as bed shelves (covers purchased as extras) and hammock (extra purchase). Item equally as easy to dismantle. Cage comes with plastic shelves (3) for bedding and one for base of unit. There are 2 doors which cats can access in/out with a clip lock mechanism. Case also has globe wheels and easy to move. Wheels also have a locking mechanism to keep in one place. Cage is black coated metal to prevent any rust etc. Delighted with product, consider good value for price asked and glad I purchased for our kitty family. Cage is for cats, see photos of product guide.

This cage is brilliant
My cat's chill out area. I love this cage. It would accomodate 2 cats comfortably. It is on wheels so it is very easy to wheel around. It took me 20 minutes on my own to assemble it - I think I assembled it on it's side to start with - somehow easier for one person. It is very straightforward - like a concertina - just unfold it. It is such good value for money. Anyone who sees it says that they have never seen anything like it. It is excellent if you have a kitten or a slightly "unruly" cat (lol)because you can put the cat in the cage for a while knowing that he is safe and has everything he needs. My cat happily will spend a couple of hours in there sleeping or resting (door closed or open so he can leave if he wants to). Very sturdy yet lightweight. Highly recommend it.

Exactly what I needed!!! ????????
I bought this for one of my cats to recover from surgery, I wish I had of thought of this years ago!!! Essential if you have a multi-pet household, it ensures that the patient cannot be disturbed giving them literally their own apartment with bathroom and scratching on the lower level, chilling on floor 1, dining on floor 2, bedroom on floor 3. The trays are designed in such a way that they can't tip if the pet jumps on the edge - very clever! It was great to be able to wheel it to an open doorway on a nice day so he could enjoy the weather too. I have a puppy who lunches on kitty litter and has no concept of personal space at mealtimes, so I can tell you how much of a difference this made in our home, stress levels reduced massively! We could have him in the main room all the time with all of us so he didn't feel excluded and giving lots of cuddles, while making sure he didn't escape the house while he still had stitches and the cone of shame! He has since had his stitches removed and is back to chasing butterflies in the garden :) It is quite simple (ingenious really!) to assemble, but you may need two people in the beginning. I saw a review here suggest laying it on its side when opening the first large section, and I can confirm that this is the best way to get started! The doors are nice and big so its easy to reach in with your pet in your arms, cleaning is also easy - you can get half your body through the opening to reach anywhere! The locks are secure, the whole cage is stable and manoeuvrable, and it can be packed flat for storage or travel. I can see this coming in really handy if we go on holiday, they can come with us! :)

Great quality and price.
This is so great for the price. I got it for outside on my balcony so she can safely sit outside in the sun. It seemed difficult to assemble on my own because 2 sides and the top are connected and you just have to clip together the other 2 of the sides. If you lay it on its already connected side with the bottom of it sitting vertically, it becomes very easy to assemble. Just a tip!

Great cage for new kitten
Picked up our 9 week kitten and little nervous about going out for a couple of hours or overnight and leaving him with no supervision as he's very active at the moment and likes wires. This cage is so spacious and great, as soon as you say cage people imagine this tiny thing and think you're cruel but this is not a "cage " more of an enclosure. It has different levels but my kitten was too nervous to get to the top one so i lowered the top one from how the picture was and he feels comfortable getting to it now but still chooses the middle shelf to sleep. Shut the doors at night around 11 after he'd gone crazy for a good hour and he seemed content till the morning. No meowing, just settles in. First night I kept feeling the need to check on him and sometimes he was asleep and then sometimes I'd look in and his eyes were open but seemed fine. He's got his food water and litter at the bottom and I notice the food has gone down in the morning so must be getting up and down. Second night didn't check in on him from like 11pm to 7am and when I opened the gates he made his way out and started purring. Same day he chose to take himself in there for his afternoon nap instead of our sofa or laps. Reassuring that he obviously doesn't mind it! Assembly wise I feel it would be pretty impossible by yourself, it's also ridiculously heavy. Good thing it has wheels because it's a breeze to move around. The instructions are a bit confusing but it's pretty sturdy once up. Very happy!
