Quality in 2021…

***This is a first impressions review for purchasers in early 2022.*** I bought two pair of Daltons in one order directly from Amazon, not a third party seller or an Amazon fulfillment partner. Both pairs were identical color and size. They arrived, and I *assume* that the number sequence on the inside of the tongue is the date code. If that’s true, then one pair was made in September of 2021 and the other pair was made in November of 2021. Both pairs fit a little snug in the width, but not uncomfortably so. They are true to to size In length. Overall, for my foot, they fit like snug dress shoes when wearing thicker boot socks. So that’s exactly what I was looking for. The tongues are gusseted halfway up to keep them from sliding. The craftsmanship of the September pair is very good. The sole stitching is even and inset properly into the stitching channel. The burnishing on the wingtip is even. All of the correct elements seem present and accounted for. The November pair used the same high-quality materials, but the craftsmanship is notably worse. The welt and sole are sanded very close to the perimeter of the leather upper. The sole stitching veers completely out of the stitching channel in several places. One wingtip is burnished and the other is not. There are pronounced lumps on the outside of the upper where the upper connects to the very back of the heel. You could argue that - as with any goods fabricated with human hands involved - these differences could be down to a different set of technicians. However, there were also two interesting material differences. One: the “wings” of the tongue that are stitched to the upper to keep the tongue from moving around are completely white on the side that faces the foot. Whereas the same pieces on the September pair are tanned all the way through. Two: the heel top lift on the November pair is the “V-tread” type usually seen in combination with the V-tread outsole. Not a huge deal as it has the same amount of traction as the usual Dalton top lift, but an interesting difference. Are these differences due to shortcuts in material processing due to global shortages? Manufacturing errors? Operator error? Everything is speculation, but anything is possible with the state of things in late 2021. Bottom line is, two pairs of the same shoe assumed made two months apart are significantly different in craftsmanship. They’re functionally the same, but one pair is more suspect than the other for longevity. Still a four star shoe based on fit and material quality.

Great shoes, but only for very formal dress.

These shoes are exceptional. However the leather bottoms won’t hold up well in gravel or none urban environments. You can order them with rubber soles directly from Allen Edmonds for an up charge. The rubber sole is considered less formal in the high fashion world. I personally think they still look great with the rubber sole and will hold up a lot better over time.

Great pair of boots!

I like them, I enjoy the color in person pictures don't do it any justice. The leather is stiff so you really got to make the laces lose before taking them off, but I didn't find it too stiff even when I was driving. I know I saw some reviewers say that there is some squeaking noise from the leather, but I didn't have that issue, I'm not sure if mines just fits me better or I don't like my boots lose so whatever the case is mine don't make a sound other then my feet hitting the ground.

***UPDATE***Most compliments I've ever received

***UPDATE AFTER 8 MONTHS*** The boots hold up very very well. I wear them a couple times per week and they still look brand new WITHOUT even applying a conditioner or anything to color enhance them. I usually just wipe the dirt off with a soft, dry cloth. Would absolutely buy another pair of these boots ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have owned these boots for a few months. I have NEVER received so many compliments on any other boot (or anything else I've ever worn). This is my second Allen Edmonds pair of boots (I also own a few pairs of their dress shoes). My best purchase from Allen Edmonds. PROs: (1) Fit is perfect. Size 11 fits as size 11. I have wide feet that often feel squeezed in designer boots, but that isn't a problem with this boot. (2) Very classy and can be worn with suits (designer jeans are almost not good enough to wear with these boots). I cannot overstate how aesthetically pleasing these boots are. (3) Have worn these for about four months and overall they still look new (and do not feel broken in yet). CONs: (1) High quality but fragile leather. I drive a lot for business and the heel of my right boot sits on the floor when my foot is on the gas pedal. After wearing these maybe once per week for 4 months there is a half dollar coin sized worn scuff spot.

Below my expectation

Soon the boots have arrived, the color looked faded, the boots needed to be polished which is a big turn off. Moreover, the fitting was extremely tight in which would caused great pain to walk.The boot did not bring happiness to my feet and to I had to returned it right away. Now I am waiting for my refund which has not arrived yet after 3 weeks.

Preposterously good looking

Looked even better in person. Quality is exceptional. I had read on style forums that the boots might fit a little long. This appears to be case with me. I typically wear a 12, however an 11.5 fit like a glove (though I don't know that I would recommend a person necessarily order a half size down - the difference is not that dramatic). Would absolutely recommend these to others!

Given Seconds/Worn pair, Great boots but if not on sale spend the extra to go see them in person and see the quality

The boots look spectacular and if it ended there this would be a 5 star review . However, what occurred was that the boots came in and seemed to have been seconds. How would I know you may ask? Well the leather sole was slightly worn , which is a clear indication that the boots either were seconds or were returned and Allen Edmonds deemed it sell able . Secondly there was heavy wrinkles on the top of the boots showing clear indication that it had been worn . I have multiple Allen Edmond pairs and although a clean non wrinkled new leather shoe is never something you can get due to the care and hand construction , this seemed heavily flawed. I got this on a great sale and since I need the shoes for work for the upcoming months and dont want to deal with headache of returns. Overall if you can get these shoes for 305( before taxes) that I paid , take the risk and the gamble, but if you will be shelling out the 500+ for them, I suggest go to your local nordstrom , or local high end shoe retailer and spend the extra 50+ so that you can get a great pair of shoes without flaws.

Nice boot, but worth the Price?

These are nice boots, gave a 3 star, unfortunately no way to give a 3.5. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice boot, however I was sent boots that were obviously on someone’s foot before being sent to me. Very comfortable out of the box. Sizing, if by some chance you owned a Thursday boot, 11.5 was your size, I would order a 12 in the Allen Edmonds. Quality/fit is good...but at Allen Edmonds prices, they better be. Having the Thursday boots, are the Allen Edmonds worth over twice the price? No! ..and I certainly wouldn’t expect to be sent a pair that has been previously worn.

You won't regret buying Daltons

Perfect fit. Perfect price. Perfect service from Amazon. I don't regret my purchase at all. The boots are beautiful in real life and, for me at least, had minimal break in time. Make sure you purchase a shoe tree and some products to keep them nice and you're good to go. (I liked the walnut Daltons so much that I actually bought a pair in black a week later!)
